Pinback – Tripoli Lyrics 11 years ago
In that vein, it could be an interpersonal war. What causes depression? Something must have happened in one's life. Therefore, if we take the country metaphor into interpersonal relationships, they got fucked over one too many times. "Did I forget that I said to you, that i would there?" - How could someone so royally fuck us over after you said that you would be there for them, no matter what? After you are left feeling the afteraffects of such an act, you're left blitzed. Did I forget? What did I do wrong? Etc. The chorus of "Sad i'm gonna die..." is a direct allusion to the metaphor. It is depression. If you have ever been depressed, the idea of death fascinates you; would people care if you died? Etc. Going from an anxious verse to such a sad chorus, it shows the tension exhibited by someone who is so anxious that they cannot enjoy life and are thus depressed.

Personally, I think the song is about depression. I'm in a very relatable spot. It's manic depression; you feel good one day, excellent in fact, and then you feel like shit the next day. After a while it gets old. You know it's looming and it makes you depressed all the time.

If you think it's about war, then it's just like depression. Think about it. What causes war? Economic depression. Think about Germany in especially world war two. They were in a shit hole, hardcore economic depression, and then they popped up and built an army. "Did I forget?" Meaning, did we forget that people are capable of atrocities just because they said they wouldn't do it again? The world, after world war one basically thought they had suppressed germany and thus forgot about the fact they'd be capable of atrocity again.

Pixies – Something Against You Lyrics 13 years ago
definitely about having something against someone. it seems like he wants to tell them, but doesn't at the same time, as evident by the muffled lyrics. disortion and lo-fi effects make this angry, it's basically just a medium of letting the anger out. probably did the job, too. long live the pixies!

Pixies – Is She Weird Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about anxiety regarding a new potential partner or love interest for a guy. He constantly questions this girl throughout the song.

Is she weird? Is she white? Is she promised to the Night? I think this is poor self-esteem in the guy, reflected through the questioning. Is she who i think she is? Promised to the night i think has to do with setting up a date, and further anxiety of the narrator wondering if she's really going to show. He can't help but wonder if she's really into him.

"And her head has no room" This could possibly be his thoughts about her, because he can't wonder why someone like her would want to be with him and so he assumes that there's no room for him in her head.

"Is she over me? Like the stars and the sun" since stars are so plentiful, and that famous phrase "there are plenty of fish in the sea", he wonders why she would remain with him when there's so much for her to choose from.

While trying to resolve his inner conflicts he just decides to go with the flow, "No more of this girl cryin', i'm here, your big man" possibly acceptance that she does like him? These are my thoughts. I just think it's about rejection anxiety. But he works through it, although he's always wondering and he's always anxious when he is around her, probably because he really likes her.

That's my take
