In this song the perspective admits that he has (forgotten where he's come from). And to the people asking why he's changed, to the people who believe in life's consistency, he has no legitimate answer other than "I've changed." And so he asks himself, "why?" The song is this man's introspection, here we see in his thoughts a guilty sense of responsibility brought on by his inability to be who he was. They've say, "you've changed," that "you're different." They want to know "why?" How could you have not.

This was written from the perspective of a man who's gone through many changes throughout the course of his life. The man he used to be is not the man that he is; experience distinguishes the two (the man he used to be from the man he is today). He's changed and home isn't the same place that it was yesterday. So how does he get back to that place, to the forgotten memories of the past? If home is where the heart is, then is that place, today, the same it was yesterday? Things change and neither man, his feeling, nor his assessment of home is an exception to that rule. What this perspective offers is a twist to the adage that is to "forget where you come from."
