This song is amazing. Had a spare day to fill in the lyrics to all of my Volbeat songs on iTunes & I have to say that I was pretty surprised at how deep some of the lyrics were. Say Your Number has a lot of symbolism in it with the seventeen (not 17) kills and 81. I cannot for the life of my find anything on seventeen kills, but I do know that 81 is a term referenced quite frequently with the Hell's Angel's. It is also a common dosage of aspirin which is where I am leaning with my guess on this song's meaning. I've been a user of many things for many years.. The mark to greet the masquerade is here ... fuckin epic line. Bang a D and see if it doesnt change the way you look/at things. For they maim the way you see them think ---obviously means that you think that the drugs are helping but you're not seeing things for what they really are. This seems to be about someone with schizophrenia, or who is at least terribly paranoid. And no matter how they try those thoughts overrule all rationality. Fighting imaginary and reality is an epic battle, and coming undone is the perfect way to describe the way your minds fights fictional thoughts and changing the way you see people and things will require undoing all fo the damage that paranoia has left behind. Coming undone is about struggle to free yourself from the grasp of unwanteds by completely ignoring ones instincts and refusing to let negative thoughts rule you. |

I think this song is about a junkie who has someone feeding her drugs and lies about life. She is obviously aware of this and is nervous about the course of action to take, but keeps on with the charade anyway, with music as her only way to vent: her only friend. "Your screams a whisper" obviously means that no one is listening, or that no one cares. "Hey you, hey you, finally you get it The world ain't fair, eat you if you let it And as your tears fall on Your breast, your dress Vibrations coming through You're in a mess A lonely life, where no one understands you" Makes me think of a junkie and how they will believe whatever is told to them, because only the devil is there, and he wouldn't think of letting anyone good get to her and show her a way out, a better life, a life where she is loved and understood. My first boyfriend shot meth. He is the only one who ever told me about it, how it effects you, how to handle the drug and how to respond to family and friends who weren't on it. When he would introduce me to his friends, they obviously were censored and were always quiet around me, never getting too close. He took the time to turn me into his little junk monkey, and I was for a while. The trick to it is to watch the way the person who has you imprisoned (damn near) and when you find the strength to break free, use the same tricks on him that he used on those around you. You cant treat him like he treated you, that will get you nowhere. Simply start running with a new crowd, perhaps rip him off or go behind his back (preferably to an enemy) for support. Tell that enemy everything, and they will not do it to you. If you don't get even, however, you will never find peace. If you continue in the game, focus solo. Make relationships with people based on interests, not habits. These are the friends who wont do you wrong. And if they ever do, you should know enough by now to remedy that situation. Sorry, way off topic, but this song makes me think of being brainwashed by a dope man. For every problem there is a remedy, and I'd love for that advice to be made useful. |

This song is about scientific studies and the companies outraged greed when their work is copied and sold. Pretty much telling the huge corporations their studies shouldn't harm anyone or anything else and being copied and losing money is what they deserve. Think of it as Karma and a laugh in the face of those testing on animals or doing spine cell research. We can clone animals, why is it we cannot CREATE these cells and test with these. I may be way off base. |

To me this song is about a constant painful state of mind that ebbs only with a certain breed of music, perhaps the cure comes from a certain musician(as they name a Mazzy). He relies on this music for a peaceful state of mind and seems worried about any truth this music/musician may release. To me he wants the sugar coated version, and he is selfish in wanting this for himself as it would cause him to be cast in an ugly light. Pretty much, keep the secret, lie for me and I will continue this enjoyable ride until "Mazzy" decides to speak the truth that will be his demise. |
