I think many of you have touched on pieces of the meaning in this song. The people saying drugs are way off-base I believe. There are definite referrences to childhood sexualization in this song. That goes hand in hand with the Scorpio from the Zodiac, Scorpio being the most sexual of all the symbols. Skrying, as I've understood it, means to divine the future by looking in a pool of water, hence "skrying through reflections in a pool". There is also a reference to the song Mercy, Severity(little girls SEVERITY, little boys begging MERCY). I believe to understand this song fully, you have to understand that song as well, and probably the entire album, as it is full of interconnected concepts. The fact that the girl is associated with the severity and the boy with the mercy is significant. Severity is associated with the feminine, and mercy with the masculine, but you have get into a whole series of different religious symbolisms and philosophies and the occult to understand all of that. Suffice it to say, all of the songs on this album are deeply complex in nature. It's worth your time to investigate it all further, but each of them still has a more "surface" meaning as well, and probably in a somewhat autobiographical sense. That being said, there's nothing wrong with looking at this song and thinking that it's just about childhood sexual abuse and the safe place one goes to to try and escape. |

To me, this song is about the control of information. Do any of us really know that anything we've been told about anything is true, or do we just accept what's been fed to us from teachers and parents and the news and the government? We're just like cattle put out to graze and chew on the cud of information that's been fed to us, but we don't really know what's true and what's bull shit. To me, this is the best song on this album, which was overall kinda weak for Mudvayne. |
