Dropkick Murphys – Skinhead on the MBTA Lyrics 14 years ago
this is the original skinheads who date back to the late 60s/70s had nothing to do with race. not the neo-nazi's that came about in the late 80s. they represented the working class who got shit out of life for all that they did for work in the middle class. they eventually became SHARPs (skinheads against racial prejudice) out of respect for the reggae music that they loved, created by and introduced by the jamaican immigrants that came to england. they then got into punk and created oi and ska together. there are many different skinheads of different race/color. this is the type of skinhead that this song is talking about.

Rise Against – Paper Wings Lyrics 15 years ago
i agree with CocoSaintClair on the meaning. you cant keep waiting on your loved ones to be ready to follow you in order to create your own future. as soon as you know what it is you want to do in life, just do it. dont wait for anyones approval, support, or help. just do it. otherwise, they'll end up holding you back and you'll die as a nobody.
thats what ive had to do recently. and this song is exactly how i feel towards my loved ones in my hometown.

Against Me! – White Crosses Lyrics 15 years ago
i really find it hilariously sad that people will always listen to obviously liberal bands without hearing what the lyrics are really saying and say that its their favorite band. but then they find out one thing about them they dont like and realize that they hate them. i had an extremely conservative christian friend whos favorite band was Rise Against until a couple of years ago when i told him that they are all mostly vegetarian, straight edge, and extremely liberal. then he decided he hated them after listening to them everyday of his life. same friend was supposed to hang out with me and another friend one day and when he called to see what we had planned, we told him that we were gonna just chill and play green day rock band. he said he might come over after we were done with that cuz he hates green day for "hating america".

so basically, before you decide you "love" a band/artist, do some fucking research and, more over, listen to what their fucking songs are about. the internet can be a beautiful tool if you use it correctly....

Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics 15 years ago
i love this band and especially this song. i played it with my ex girlfriend acoustically at school my senior year. although i agree with it, being an atheist myself, i also strongly agree with Ratt. he talked about how you shouldnt blindly follow the opposite of what you hate. "Greg isn't God either" -Ratt. and he is completely right. although one side hasnt been your view, you cant just "rebel" to the blind opposite. just as the author of "when atheism becomes religion" says throughout his book. fundamental christians running the country isnt a great idea but neither is fundamental atheists. or as he calls them "new atheists". anyways. dont "rebel" just think. thinking still isnt illegal.

Against Me! – I Was a Teenage Anarchist Lyrics 15 years ago
i bought this vinyl soon as i heard this song on youtube. its definately different from their old stuff. but still good music.
this song explains exactly how i feel about the punk scene. i was an anarchist/punk rocker in high school. but then at the end of senior year i realized that i was just a stupid poser like stevo in SLC Punk. though i didnt see that movie til after high school.
anyways, "the revolution was a lie".

Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics 15 years ago
ok Tomas Kalnoky is an atheist. and yes that is what this song is about. hes talking about how they all say hes going to hell (mephisto's cafe) for being atheist. but his attitude is basically just "supposedly im goin to hell for my views, but i dont care". i remember when i told the meaning to my christian friend, carpy, he just said "wow theyre so optimistic about eternal damnation". i thot it was funny. but anyways. as sinners, we are all going "down down down to mephistos cafe".
