| The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Voodoo Child (Slight Return) Lyrics | 12 years ago |

One of Jimi's most soaring songs. Flying on the Eagles Wing Baby! Not sure why most sites get some of the lyrics wrong.(I guess a lot of them copy each other?) "I taste the honey from a flower named blue" doesn't make any sense. What he says is "I taste the honey from a flower named boo" "boo" was old jazz/blues musician slang for marijuana. What he is referring to is marijuana honey oil. Also I don't think he says "I float in liquid garden", I'm pretty sure it's "I float in liquid goddess" in which I believe he is referring to LSD. And of course "Arizona's new red sand" is of course Mescaline. The whole passage refers to mind expanding drugs that he enjoyed. Peace, and fly on brothers and sisters :) |

This song give me the chills Lots of artists have covered this song, but none approach the powerful existential despair that comes through in the original as sung by Jesse Colin Young |

No doubt it is crazy people are still trying to figure this one out. First let me say I do not believe it is about masturbation, not the physical act anyway. Listen closely to the "What is it?" portion beginning at about 2:45 I believe he says in response "Good Cid!" referring to acid aka LSD He says some other things too, possibly "you're sick", he definitely does not say "It's It" each time. "It's magic, it's tragic, it's a loss, it's a win" "It's so groovy, it's outta sight" "It's in your face but you can't grab it" "What is it?" "Good Cid!" |

| It is not a stretch, SamuraiDrifter Nailed it. I'm surprised he got the "maybe as his eyes are wide" part. But failed to notice, as nearly everyone does. That the first time it is sung. He does not sing "maybe as his skies are wide" as the lyrics sheets say. He actually sings "maybe acid skies are wide" listen closely, it is very clear. | |
