| Blue Öyster Cult – Subhuman Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| It's about Imaginos and it is an allusion to the Christ-alien theory. Like Christ, who is abandoned by Judas and Peter, Imaginos is abandoned by two friends. Like Christ, who is resurrected by angels/aliens who fly, Imaginos is saved by fish-like aliens who swim. Like Christ, who institutes a sacrament of bread and wine, Imaginos institutes a sacrament of the blue sky bag, with environmental references to earth, wind, water, and fire(gold). | |
| Blue Öyster Cult – Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl) Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| @[headerkel:35182] Actually, lyrics refer to a juke joint, so disregard the Duke. She is a prostitute in New Orleans who chokes her victims with a poison. Everything else above still stands. | |
| Blue Öyster Cult – Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl) Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| Quicklime girl, she disposes of coast guard men's bodies who visit the Duke's whorehouse. Burying them in a garden area, she dissolves the bodies with quicklime. The bodies then fertilize the plants, which she harvests in springtime for "Salmon Salt" which I take to mean dill, aka Anethum GRAVEolens. | |

| I think this song is about a Nazi fighter pilot being pursued by Allied planes in England during WWII, crashing on the ground because the clouds are too think to see it. | |
| Blue Öyster Cult – Baby Ice Dog Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| This song is the sequel/prequel to the song The Red and the Black. Mongolian guy in Canada meets a woman who says she will marry him in Mongolia. He finds out she is lying and kidnaps her. They crash in the flight to USA. The last part sounds like he is suggesting the women want to have sex with his black husky, which is probably a delusion? Maybe he suggested this to his girlfriend and this is what freaked her out? | |

"Canadian mounted baby, a police force that works" protagonist is being pursued by mounties "Red and black, that's their color scheme" like the Nazi's "Get their man, in the end" relentless pursuit of criminals "It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my honey knows it's all right It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my baby knows it's all right c'mon little husky" guy is kidnapping his girlfriend, holding her with a dog chain "Frontenac Chateau baby I'll cross the frontier at ten Got a whip in my hand baby And a girl or a husky at leather's end" He is staying at the hotel which is near the U.S. border. He will be taking a dogsled across the border with his victim at 10pm. "It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my honey knows it's all right It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my baby knows it's all right" He thinks his girlfriend will come around eventually "Horn swoop me bungo pony, dogsled on ice Make a dash for freedom baby don't skate on polar ice It's too think to be sliced by the light Of long and white polar nights" He crashes the dogsled in the middle of the night as he is fleeing toward USA, underestimates the distance and dies "It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my honey knows it's all right It's all right (repeat four more times) Oh yeah my baby knows it's all right" They are definitely dead |

| Blue Öyster Cult – She's As Beautiful As A Foot Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| @[theantisk:35181] Yes, he must have been stalking the woman in the song, "she heard somebody say the other day." "Tasted like a fallen arch" refers to the foot fetish as well. "Don't put your tooth on the bloody tooth mark place" because her face is changing to red and white, like a guernsey cow. In other words, the killer is keeping her around and has to remind himself not to ingest the bacteria and whatnot from the wound on her face. Pretty gross stuff! | |
| Queen – Jesus Lyrics | 9 years ago |

The "wise men" are the Magi. These are followers of Zoroaster, as was Freddie and many other Persians. Persia, or modern day Iran, is the birthplace of Zoroaster, and before it became predominately Muslim, most Persian people were Zoroastrian like Freddie Mercury. This is simply a song recognizing that one can be a follower of Zoroastrianism and also a follower of Jesus, as the Gospel of Matthew suggests. From Wikipedia: Magi (/ˈmeɪdʒaɪ/; Latin plural of magus) is a term, used since at least the 6th century BCE, to denote followers of Zoroastrianism or Zoroaster. The earliest known usage of the word Magi is in the trilingual inscription written by Darius the Great, known as the Behistun Inscription. Old Persian texts, pre-dating the Hellenistic period, refer to a Magus as a Zurvanic, and presumably Zoroastrian, priest. |

@[thenanor:16310] You are the only one who made this connection, and it is the correct way to interpret the song. The only thing I would add is that Zoroastrianism was well-established by the time of Jesus. The word used in Matthew is Magi, which gets translated into English as "wise men." Here is a snippet of the Wikipedia article on Magi: "Magi (/ˈmeɪdʒaɪ/; Latin plural of magus) is a term, used since at least the 6th century BCE, to denote followers of Zoroastrianism or Zoroaster. | Foals – Spanish Sahara Lyrics | 15 years ago |

It just occurred to me that "fury" might be an allusion to the Shakespeare quote: “Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” |

I think you are right now about most of this. Just to add some thoughts that would add more support to your interpretation: 1. "god damn this boiling space" may refer to the increasing entropy of the universe, and the fact that at some point in the future energy will be dissipated and completely disordered. Boiling is a form of physical change in which molecules become more random and less structured, which is a form of entropy. 2. If HauntedHarmony is right below, perhaps the sight of a dead dog triggered these reflections on death, meaning, chaos, nothingness, etc. This also may help explain what is going on when he describes finding something in the sand and wiping it clean with dirty hands (all of this quite literal). 3. The Spanish Sahara may refer to the place where he saw the dog, or it could be a metaphor for the ambiguous status of life/universe. According to Wikipedia, "Its sovereignty remains under dispute... The United Nations considers the former Spanish Sahara a non-decolonized territory, with Spain as the formal administrative power." Similarly, at one time the universe was thought to be governed by God, but now it is not clear if anything is governing it. 4. Wanting to leave the horror in the Spanish Sahara may be a metaphor for wanting to believe that the universe does have an ultimate meaning/purpose insofar as it is governed by God. When the sovereignty of God in the universe is no longer under dispute, the horror of nothingness goes away. I'm not sure if I buy the "I am" references as referring to God. I'm also not sure what any of the "fury" references might mean. |
