Maybe, because Morrissey does have a huge inventory of pop culture to call upon for lyrics, but I think they way he and Marr collaborated is how that line came about. Marr usually wrote and laid down the music tracks with Rourke and Joyce independent of Morrissey and sent the demo over to Morrissey to figure out the vocals. So, I'm thinking what happened was that Marr had the complete instrumental version of the song that has this bomb exploding sound effect in the middle of the track and Morrissey just had to come up with a line to justify it's being there, so he wrote "the bomb, the bomb....will keep us together" to make it fit. |

| Imagine Dragons – Radioactive Lyrics | 12 years ago |

It's about a guy in prison, here, I'll break it down for you, line by line: I'm waking up to ash and dust, (most prisons are dirty, they sneak smokes into the cells, so ash and dust) I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust, (most prison cots are rusty) I'm breathing in, the chemicals. (they sneak in drugs, in this case, he's huffing something, that's the chemicals) I'm breaking in, shaping up, checking out on the prison bus. (breaking in - must mean he's using his cellmate; shaping up - they always working out in the yard; checking out he prison bus - he's looking for fresh meat) This is it, the apocalypse, whoa. (For the fresh meat, this is it, the end) I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones. (morning wood) Enough to make my systems blow. (morning bathroom usage) Welcome to the new age, to the new age. (life in prison) Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive. (the song by the same name by the band The Firm must be popular in the stony lonesome) Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive. I raise my flags, don my clothes, (putting on his gang colors and prison jumpsuit) It's a revolution I suppose. (prison riot) We'll paint it red, to fit right in, whoa. (he must be a Blood) I'm breaking in, shaping up, checking out on the prison bus. This is it, the apocalypse, whoa. I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones. Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive. Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive. All systems go, sun hasn't died. (the prison riot must be going on into the afternoon, because the sun hasn't gone down yet) Deep in my bones, straight from inside. (guys in the joint call being in prison the inside) I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones. Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive. Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive. |

| Butthole Surfers – Dust Devil Lyrics | 12 years ago |

DirtDevil was a brand of vacuum cleaner made by Royal that came out in 1984; it was small and portable but still had pretty good suction power. The tagline for the early ads was "Power of an upright in your hand." So, Gibby made a pretty good joke swapping Dust Devil for Dirt Devil. |

| Butthole Surfers – U.S.S.A. Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think Gibby was saying there's not much difference between the two; USSR, USSA. | |
| Chris Bell – I Am The Cosmos Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think it's about a guy that wants to see someone again. Really wants to see them again. A lot. | |
| The Replacements – Alex Chilton Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I've listened to this song a couple times, so I think I've got a pretty good handle on what the meaning is: This band obviously has an affinity for Chilton automotive repair manuals, hence the title of the song. It's a song about working on a car that keeps breaking down, an AMC Venus. (crappy car from the 70's) The odd thing is that it keeps breaking down in front of a particular grocery store, Big Star. The kids that loiter in front of the store love it hear the engine purr when he finally gets it working, though; that's the "I'm in love with that sound," line. |

| Phoenix – 1901 Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Saw an interview with them, it's about Paris being "better" or maybe, the focal point of the world back in 1901. They had the World's Fair that year, it was seen as the most modern city in the world back then. Now, Paris is an after thought behind other Western cities. Still an awesome city, but not anywhere close to what it's potential was believed to be back in 1901. Two World Wars in your backyard will have that effect on progress. The same can be said about New York, it hasn't lived up to the expectations people had for it back in the 1960's. The TV show "The Jetson's" was set back in 2001, and we are nowhere near idea of the future today that people of 50 years ago envisioned. So, it's looking back on what people of the past thought our future would look like and how our present seems disappointing considering what it was believed it could have been by the people back in 1901. |

| I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| A break up after listening to his girl go on a rant one final time. He can't stand her like this and it happens too often, so he finally decides to leave for good. | |
| I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness – According to Plan Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It's "under delicate breath" for sure, like something was said in a whisper. | |
| Interpol – Wrecking Ball Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| As the song is fading out, I think Paul is saying "blasphemer" at the very end. Kind of like a chant from church. | |
| Interpol – C'mere Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think the song is talking about how people fall ass-backward into marriage. People sometimes get married simply because they have spent "x" amount of years together and not necessarily for love. "Set a date, you know exactly how I feel" is more like a dare than a profession of love. Both try to look for ways out, because they are too young "to be locked" into a marriage. When he says his girl is "in love with someone else", I think he's talking about the girl being in love with her version of him, how she wants him to be, and not how he really is. And not his true nature. At least the way he knows himself to be, the side he hasn't shown her. But, after enough time with her, he's changed, and he's softened on the idea of going through with it "I had my doubts little girl", "I'm in love with something real", he didn't need a piece of paper (marriage licensee) to be together, but "It could be me, that's changing" she wore him down and he's conceded to her desire of making it official and getting married. So, in the past he, well really they both make excuses, or look for reasons why they shouldn't, "take time, look for somebody else." But, they "pass a line" they come to a point in the relationship where it's either marry or break up, they get hitched because it's easier than breaking up. And maybe they will eventually fall in love, realistically they go old together, if they live long enough to be one of the old couples walking around together in a park, "seasoned with health." Anyway, that's the way I picture it. |

| Butthole Surfers – I Saw An X-Ray Of A Girl Passing Gas Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Saw Katie Couric get a colonoscopy on the news. Maybe this is where she got the idea. As usual Gibby is way ahead of the curve. | |
| Butthole Surfers – Something Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"saw the sun rise over my Daddy's grave" Maybe the guy in the song had witnessed his Dad beat the crap out of his Mom, so it's like he embodied his Dad when he beat his own woman and since "this time she's gonna bleed" he must of killed her and so there's no one to cook the food, so he's eating "cheese and rice today" or she's beat up too much to cook Or, he didn't think the beating was any more important than the fact that what he ate ("Yep, I beat my wife and...oh yeah, I ate some cheese and rice. Typical Monday.") |

| Butthole Surfers – Cough Syrup Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
He must have been watching the Cleveland Indians playing the California Angels, in a playoff game, perhaps "big money on the line" Maybe it's what he was watching on TV while tripping on too much cough syrup? ( or just the right amount?) |

| Butthole Surfers – Dust Devil Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Yeah, I thought Dust Devil was a household name as well as that line from the commercial. Hell, I have a Dust Devil in my closet now. Guess if Gibby had written it today it would be about a Dyson Devil. Maybe that is what happens when you do drugs and trip in a closet where a vacuum is stored. You also make a kick-ass song. |

| Handsome Furs – Handsome Furs Hate This City Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I believe the last line is really "but you won't know what it's for." But, like ya'll said, it could be any cold, heartless, sprawling city around the world. Also, I think they are commenting on the commercialism, or consumerism that exist in most homes, stockpiles of stuff with "wires on the floor" that people don't even know how to use. And people waste most of their lives to earn money to collect all this crap, a "long and hollow" life devoid of meaning. Love the song and love this husband and wife duo. He really makes his guitars buzz and she lays down some great beats that frame the songs. |
