Radiohead – Bloom Lyrics 11 years ago
I agree with Xaiv, the song aims to give a feeling of beginning, like the blooming of a flower. About coming to fruition, to senses.
The coming of existence, and consequently the start of a journey and quest like life.
I think this song alludes to the never-ending series of births, of blooming flowers, of people becoming more and more conscious of this world. It has a sense of being (re)born, an awakening feeling.
No wonder they use it to start their concerts so often, and start their album.

Anyways here my interpretation:
(Warning: I talk very much in imagery.)

Do note: This song starts of surprisingly high paced, with some high notes, very much "awake", and slightly chaotic. I see it as a slowly blooming flower in a busy street, people, cars, the world passing by in flashes.

Open your mouth wide
The universal sigh
//I find this part to call upon me multiple imageries on different occasions.
Mostly, I see it as if the singer is like feeding a child.
"Open your mouth wide, let me feed you, let me teach you."
The universal sigh, an almost hopeless, pessimistic sigh: "Is this going to change everything? Will this child aid this world? Will this generation finally fix the shit we're in?"
Sometimes, I just think he's calling for us to realise, to relate to his sense of hopelessness and desperation. To universally sigh together, realise, accept, so we can all achieve the determination to fix this world.

And while the ocean blooms
It's what keeps me alive
//Despite the sense of disappointment and hopelessness, impending despreation, this blooming is akin to hope. It's what keeps him hopeful, alive. Again, two things which are so closely intertwined.
Because, as long as people will still grow into flowers, into something unique and special, as something more than just the common weed, we still have hope. Without hope, one is dead. Until one has given up, he's still alive, able to influence this world.

So why does it still hurt? (This is album version lyrics)
Don't blow your mind with why
//It still hurts because every time someone goes 'bad', a person turns out wrong, a flower grown crooked, it's a hope, a dream shattered. So every new birth, every new hope, is regarded as less hopeful, because when you look at whats happening, it's all going down the drain.
Because if you compare the good and bad, it doesnt look good.
It's going in a bad direction.
Why?
You don't want to know. It'll only blow your mind. It's a warning. Just try to do your best in repairing the damages.

A feeling of desperation.

I'm moving out of orbit
Turning in somersaults
(Turning in somersaults)
I dive into those eyes
(I dive into those eyes)
Jellyfish swim by

//Radiohead has a very consistent tendency to perceive the world as an ocean. Humans as fish in the sea. (Weird fishes/Daily Mail and more. Farfetched, but might be inspired by DH lawrence's little fish)
As for the orbit, it's breaking out of habits, going into a change. Turning in somersaults indicating that this is done extravagantly, determined, maybe with extreme measures.
I dive in those eyes, "Those eyes" probably refers to all those fish, all those people gazing at him, helpless, in need, unguided. Problems, affairs that need attendance. He turns in somersaults to help, because the world needs it.
Jellyfish swim by. Apathic. Pointless Jellyfish, with their apathetic, pointless life, swim by, while he rushes past. A stark contrast of the blind and apathetic, and the desperate, the ones who see the world's needs.

There. My 2 cents. Probably a very personal one, but hope it may be of help in some way :)
Cheers,
Jin

(Do note: written very tiredly. Feedback welcome!)

Radiohead – Bangers + Mash Lyrics 14 years ago
Indeed I think it's just about "whatever gets you up", things like power, pleasure, pecunia, that once you've tasted it, you just want more, it's like a poison. And that everyone is able to succumb to these 'drugs'.

Also about the title, I think it's what gets Thom Yorke (or some other band member) up! Maybe they all just go crazy about Bangers and Mash!

Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics 14 years ago
It's like most people say; it's about adultery.

The song portrays this situation:

Two people are in a relationship with two different people. These relationships are however (for the narrator) obviously not meant to be. These relationships are built carefully, but could collapse anytime, it's fragile and can be frustrating, its fun, but just not it.
Their relations are just houses of cards.

The infrastructure part is referring to the things that make their relationship (of house of cards) work,
like in real life, infrastructures are how goods and information can travel efficiently throughout a city/system, and in the relationship its like the tools and ways the relationship is kept 'healthy' and running. But it takes too much effort, too much energy, there'll be voltage spikes and the relationship will cease to exist/function.

The narrator wants the girl (the "you" in this song) to let go of her relationship, to put the housekeys in the bowl, leave the house, kiss her husband goodnight forever, kiss her husband goodbye.
He wants her to just forget about their houses of cards, to swipe it under the table, to deny its excistence, and he'll do the same, since it's 'obvious' that THEY are meant to be with eachother.

The narrator is desperately in love with another girl; so no matter what, he wants to be with her; no matter how they do it, how they'll start it off, no matter how it ends, he just wants to be with her.

A beautiful song about desperate love, and frustrations of stupid worthless relationships, whilst knowing you love someone else more. I'm still doubting a bit though about if it's really love, or just sexual attraction.
Kinda reminds me of Fake Plastic Trees anyways.

Thanks for reading,

Radiohead – Nude Lyrics 14 years ago
For me it's about being in love whilst knowing its not gonna happen, knowing she doesn't love you, or rejected you.

Hence the title nude: Nude is referring to how naked, vulnerable we are when we're in love.
You've made yourself so vulnerable for emotions, you feel naked towards the one you love, your heart and soul has been stripped from its protection, its armour, leaving you nude.
The song is spoken in third person, the narrator is speaking towards himself, or it's like its conscience, his sense talking to him.

"Don't get any big ideas
They're not going to happen"

This is the narrator reminding himself it's not gonna happen, trying to convince himself of the impossibility, hoping that it might help him get over her. Because this feeling of nudeness is painful, he hates it, no man wants to be this vulnerable, nude towards the world.

"You paint yourself white
And fill up with noise
But there'll be something missing"

You paint yourself free and clean of the love, the nude, try to hide everything that reminds you of the stupidity you're in, you try to fill yourself up with noise, with things to compensate for the void in your heart, friends, partys, activities, whatever, but in the end, it just won't fill the void; something'll be missing.

"Now that you've found it, it's gone
Now that you feel it, you don't
You've gone off the rails"

The paradoxes are referring to how you think you've found the love, but then discovered it'll never be yours. It's there, but never yours;
You were on the rails to love, but somehow you got off them, coincidentally, through internal or external influences, I dont know.

But in the end, you still love her.
You want her, no matter what, since that's simply what you feel.
Even though you know it's not gonna happen, that maybe the consequences are terrible, you still want her, you can't help thinking about her, longing for her.
You can't help having this 'dirty' mind, with 'dirty' desires and wishes, that'll never come true.
You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking.

A possibility is that like in other songs like House of Cards and Fake Plastic Trees, that the girl the guy wants already has someone else. So that might contribute to the "dirtyness" of the "mind".

Anyways love this song, kinda resembles some of my situations, so I thought I'd give my interpretation on it, thanks for reading.

Thom Yorke – Skip Divided Lyrics 14 years ago
Correct lyrics:

I'm in a skip divided malfunction
I flap around and divebomb
Frantically around your light
Enveloped in a sad distraction

I got your voice repeating endlessly
Could you guide me in?
Could you smother me?
I swoop around your head
But I never hit
I'm blinded by your daylight

Electric veins have passed through me
I thought there was this big connection

I only got my name
I only got this situation
I just need a number and location

Without appropriate papers or permissions
I'm known to bite in tight situations
And then I head into your french windows
I thought there was a big connection

I only got my name
I only got my situation
I just need my number and location

And the mole keeps telling me
Hey hey hey hey hey hey
The devil may
Hey hey hey hey hey hey

You are a fool, you are a fool
For sticking 'round, for sticking 'round
Yeah you are a fool, you are a fool
For sticking 'round, for sticking 'round

I've tried every trick in the book
I've tried to look in you
Every trick in the book
Well how come I lose?

No one can undress your elliptical caress
Don't look into your eyes
Cause you're desperately in love
In love, in love

When you walk in the room everything disappears
When you walk in the room it's a terrible mess
When you walk in the room I start to melt
When you walk in the room I follow you 'round like a dog

I'm a dog
I'm a dog
I'm a lapdog
I'm your lapdog, yeah

I just got a number and location
I just need my number and location

Radiohead – Creep Lyrics 14 years ago
Yup. I think you're right; It's a self-loathing song filled with insecurity.
We just feel like creeps when we love someone we know we could never reach.

Think this is why Thom never plays it anymore, and dislikes it; this song isn't worthy of his pure awesomeness! It's too insecure! Or maybe it's all a lie and it's just a tad too personal for him...

Thom Yorke – And It Rained All Night Lyrics 14 years ago
The meaning isnt very clear to me, but hell, the imagery sure is.
This song is beautiful, like pranav ojha, I love rain.

To me its like a late night, having had a few drinks and you're enjoying the cleansing feeling that the rain causes when it falls down and drips off of you.
Within the big city, with the big trains, with the big dampy sewers, with the millions of powerful engines, all resting but with the potential of catastrophe, it's all rain and water, leaks which could turn into floods any moment, and leaks who'll just drip steadily throughout the night. But you don't care, you just enjoy the rain and the rythm of the dripping leaks.

The rain falls down and down, and in the big drops of water you think you can see your hands and face reflected in the water, like you can see your face reflected in a shiny doorknob.
The rain keeps pouring down in big drops and while you just stand there looking in the raining sky, the worms awake, crawling up through the earth to see what's up. Some worried people awake and drive their cars away from the flooding river.

You notice how the rain is relentless in its potential destruction, seemingly invisible, always indefatigable in its pouring, unaffected by pleas, prayers and rain dances, indisputable in its actions, as you can only forecast the weather, never control, the rain is undeniable.

You look above in the sky, and see how the rain seems to come from the moon (rain can only be seen with light, of course, and when looking at the moon, all other rain seems too dark too see). And it looks beautiful and you don't know why, but it just is. It looks like as if the moon is falling from the sky, drop by drop.

But the moon is up in the sky, you might feel drops of it, but it'll always stay in the sky, you'll never reach it. Maybe there's a connection between a special someone, that the narrator compares the beautiful moon with someone else, but that's up to your interpretation.

As for me, I'll keep it to a girl, as beautiful as the moon. You can look, but you can't touch, undeniable in its existence but she'll never be yours. You'll enjoy her presence, your relation with her, and you'll just have to do with the platonic relationship you have with her, you won't get anything more, even though you want it.

Anyways my interpretation, hope its any help/fun reading it!

Radiohead – Creep Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's about someone who's in love, who's either just been rejected (unrequited love), or absolutely sure that the girl doesn't love her back (insecure maybe).
It's a song about being desperately in love, whilst being absolutely sure the girl doesn't love you.

The recurring sentences are:

"I wish I was special
You're so fucking special"

"But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here"

(for the next interpretation I'll assume he's not been rejected, but just thinks he would be)

In the first part it's about how he's sure that he'll be rejected because he's not special, or he wants to be special so she might love him, because why would a girl so fucking special want someone who isnt even the slightest special? In any case his 'specialness' is nothing compared to the girl, who is like an angel.

Who the hell is he for even thinking he could even be with her? She's so fucking special and he's not. This is why he thinks he's just a creep and weirdo. It's portraying a feeling of self-loath, low self esteem.
She could never love him; why the hell does he even try? What the hell is he doing here, he doesn't belong in this game of love with her. He wants to get rid of this feeling of love, since it's not gonna happen anyways.

My opinion anyways. How I interpretated it. As for the verses:

The first verse is mainly about how he fell in love, to show how much he loves the girl.
A tribute to the girl, since whatever the case, even though he 'knows' he could never be with the girl, he loves her with all his heart.

As for the third verse (I don't care if it hurts); he wants to have:

Control over his mind, his heart, his feelings. So he could get over this agonizing insecurity, this feeling of hopelessness, or control so he could do better with her.
A perfect body and soul in the hope that that could make her love him, he's insecure and loathes all of his imperfections, he just wants to be perfect.

He wants the girl to notice when he's not around how much he loves her. Just to notice everything he feels, everything that is keeping him busy.

As for the running part, I think he's picturing the girl rejecting him, getting scared by him or the situation, and running away from his confession of love.

Either that, or the last 3 verses are about the rejection:
He confesses his love
The girl is shocked and can't answer, is scared, afraid, and runs away.
He still loves her, still feels the same, but again, what is he doing here, loving this girl, confessing his love, playing this one-sided game of love.

He doesn't belong there, he just wants to get away from it all.

Thanks for reading, love the song. Don't hate me for it btw, but I prefer honey mustards cover. The running part was never my fave, and I love how he emphasises the third verse:
"I want me one of those,
Brand new perfect souls"

Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm confident that this song is about the narrator wanting someone else's wife/girlfriend instead of his current one.
The narrator is convinced the girl doesn't belong to the man she's currently with: she's living a fake life. The first verse is a metaphor for (watering) her fake life (with fake love).

The second verse is in this 'story' about how the woman is with one of those 'fake' people who do unsatisfying fake work, giving (rich elderly insecure) women fake 'beauty'. The man is actually broken, because in the end he knows his life is a failure, the facts drop onto him, the illusions, the veils always drop in the end through gravity.

You can uphold the illusion as long as you want, but in the end, gravity always wins.

The third verse is about his own girlfriend/wife. She looks and tastes just like the real thing. The real thing being the true one; the girl he wants, the girl he sings about earlier. His current girl is just to keep him busy, his fake plastic love. (note how this is a reference to coca cola: "The real thing")

No matter how much your fake plastic love can be similar to the real thing, in the end its never as fulfilling as the real thing, and you'll be yearning for it. The yearning, even though his fake plastic love tastes and feels just the same, he can't help the feeling to blow through the ceiling, to escape, to run away from his fake life, and that wears him out.
The illusion is wearing him out.

And then, "If I could be who you wanted all the time" can make some people shed a tear. The high pitched "be" is heart breaking. He just wants to be with the girl, and just wants her to feel the same.

To be honest, this is not about mother earth or materialism, and its pretty biased and stupid to think that... Ah well. Opinions, i guess.

and if I could beeeee........

Confirmed for album version ^^
Also makes sense; The more you try erasing, the more you keep dodging the matter, the facts, the more that you appear, the more it stands out.
