This song is fairly obvious, A guy goes into isolation from the world after the end of relationship, an ending he didn't want and he still holds the girl in his heart. He no longer has the will to bother with people. Happens to a lot of guys, whereas often girls become more social after the end of a relationship. |

'Special' from my understanding is a song about the perspective of a guy who is no longer wanted by the girl that he loves, but they still sleep together even though he feels it isn't the moral thing to be doing. There are clues to this in the lyrics and the video backs it up. Example: 'You're special, you're like a rocket for me' = He loves her and she turns him on... 'You're like a rocket for me, and I cannot this time' = He doesn't want to sleep with her 'Agarina, you can't say no, Agarina, this time you will go' She is inviting him, and knows he can't resist her, but this time you will go may mean that when the morning comes he will be gone or that he will turn her down. 'Theres a taste that you cant shake' the taste is his love or attraction for her 'That you can't seem to let them go awry' He can't move on and let her go, even though he should 'I know what you said to me, and I don't care at the same time' he knows its over, and she doesn't want him for anything more than sex, but despite that he will still sleep with her 'I'll take you up and down, address it to you' To be crude, he will screw her... The video has many symbols also. The intro when the lady bursts from the water. water is a symbol of death and change. She is gone. The lady has short hair and the man has a beard. Both are often traditional symbols in some northern european societies of grieving the death of a loved one, or a widow or widower. The strange dance, obviously meaning to be sex. The castle or estate itself with the darkness of the forest could symbolise their refuge or relationship with the darkness or end around it (maybe :P) The fact that the video is shot in low light and black and white. The lovers have a sombre and intense look, as if they are enjoying their final moments. In the end the lady runs from the man, he gives chase desperately but she disappears under the water and he is left alone. Jonas, Bo, Silas and Johan look as if they may be dressed for a funeral. That's just my interpretation, I guess based also on my own personal experiences it appeals to me a lot but I have always thought this song meant that. |
