I really hope any members of Parkway Drive read what you people interpret their music as. It's fucken ridiculous. While songs are made to be interpreted differently by different individuals, you are mostly all saying the same stupid shit. It's about a girl, it's about a boy, it's about a break up. Generation Y, please shut the fuck up and stop tainting a iconic Australian band with your idiocy. If you had half a brain you would try and look behind the lyrics as structured and try to apply them to something that is more substantial than over emotionalism in blind love, heart ache and the weak exit of suicide by even weaker people. The band have even admitted that this song gets interpreted the wrong way. In fact, you people are pretty much giving this song the same ideology to what the song is speaking out against... Read past what you want something to be and look at it for what it is. You want it to be about a guy or girl who have been dumped because then you can relate to it more and try and convince yourself that this song speaks to you because of that. Get over your selfish reasons for enjoying somebody else's art. Fuckheads |

This song is very sexual in nature. It is present in the structure and execution of it collectively. The person you show during the act of sex, can be a person you choose to be. Much like all other instances of existence, it can either be an act or be real. This entire album I feel, deals with the concept of opening up and being comfortable with who you are in all regards. Having said that, this track in particular deals with the very bare element of being more attracted to the act as apposed to the person putting on the act. Impression is something that a person seems put great thought into as a way of gaining acceptance or connection (physically, mentally) and although the person is hidden beneath the persona they put on, it is something you have to appreciate and work with before they will allow you to see the person underneath. In a casual sex relationship, over time, regardless of whether you want it to or not. The physical act soon starts to hint at emotional bond and breaks a person down to reveal true emotional feelings through very physical acts. The Butcher, in my opinion is the person who unintentionally starts to break down the other. |

Time magazine once praised Chino for being one of the most abstract and intelligent song writers in recent times. It's not difficult to see why. I believe this song deals with a person taking off the public mask they wear in public and revealing who they really are to you. Letting their guard down, letting you in to see who they really are. I also think the song elaborates on how it is never easy to do this and goes into even though there is great danger in it. In saying that, it means a great deal when somebody shows their true self, if only for a short amount of time. It solidifies a connection between two entities but presents great vulnerability. The section of this song that I believe is the most cryptic is: "I kinda like you when, when you make up them real Take the phone in your room, stop the tape I'll resume Well you could try if you think it will load" My personal opinion of this is; when are person does let their guard down, it has a habit of coming back up again in fear. If the receptive soul is able, with little influence, they can get another person to let them in regardless of the door that stands between the two. Behind that door, with that guard down, when they are at their most vulnerable state...lies true beauty. |

This entire album is a masterpiece. I never like to think of what the song means to the artist personally because that is their own influence for putting the piece together. Chino has stated on several occasions that his songs are open to interpretation, much like Maynard's work with Tool. Chino has also specified that this entire album was not written from his perspective but from another. Which begs me to question if this was really written about how he feels about Chi being in comatose and instead being written from Chi's perspective. I think it deals with two separate entities still feeling each others presence and influence despite being in two different places (mentally, physically, spiritually) and how even though that bridge makes a divide of some kind, it can not last forever because the two separate entities are not destined to be apart. As lame as it sounds, in short, I believe it is about a persons Soul Mate having direct effect without knowing it and how it will one day bring them together. |
