I talk to Peter Lewis sometimes, but he didn't write this one. Somebody who knows Don, Jerry or Bob who seem to be listed as the songwriters should ask them if they remember what the meaning was. I'll accept the first poster's guess until that happens. I agree, though..MG is so underrated it's ridiculous, and they are responsible for more quality per square inch than any other band, in large part due to Bob's vocals, Jerry's guitar, Peter's songs, Don's drumming, and the very amazing talents of Alexander Spence. A concentration of talent like you'll find nowhere else. |

Yes Morbid, it is a cover, and it had two different Stones versions, one recorded in Hollywood or Chicago and the other at Olympic in London. The earlier one in London has the organ intro, the other a guitar intro - now this is just from memory, s o feel free to set me straight (others have tried....Gawd knows!) It could actually be that the organ intro version was recorded in the states, but I don't remember it that way. I don't have time to properly research it right now, but I know my stabbing at it in the dark will inspire someone (maybe even me!) to go look it up - it's probably right there on wiki, now that I actually think about it! |

I've been a RS fan since I heard Time Is On My Side on my parent's car radio - I was 12 years old. I'm almost sixty now, and every time I hear the guitar intro to Gimme Shelter it sends a shiver up my spine and makes my brain snap back to life. It's either genius, inspiration or the biggest case of dumb luck rock and roll ever heard. Nothing else in my opinion comes close, and I've never even cared what the song was about or who actually wrote what. I could listen to the first sixty seconds over and over without ever tiring of it. That's on me, mate. |
