Yeah Tom came out to Victoria/Autralia a few years before this song was written. He was on the Don Lane show and got made fun of by the Host, Don who really couldn't comprehend Tom's Schtik at the time - years later he became a massive Tom Fan. Anyways I've always liked to think that Tom must have taken the Overlander train to Adelaide and got told the story of Servicetown by the bartender on the train - or maybe they stopped at serviceton in those days and the pub was shut:) |

I've seen it all boys I've been all over Been everywhere in the Whole wide world I rode the high line With old blind Darby I danced real slow With Ida Jane>>>>>> Dudes reliving his life I was full of wonder When I left Murfreesboro Now I am full of hollow On Maxwell street...>>>>>> been shot - full of hollow (holes) And I hope my Pony I hope my Pony I hope my Pony Knows the way back home I walked from Natcher To Hushpukena I built a fire by the side Of the road I worked for nothin in a Belzoni saw mill. I caught a Blind out on the B and O Talullah's friendly Belzoni ain't so A 44'll get you 99>>>>>>>>>>44 winchester will get you 99 years in jail And I hope my Pony I hope my Pony I hope my Pony Knows the way back home I run my race with burnt face Jake Gave him a Manzanita cross I lived on nothin But dreams and train smoke Somehow my watch and chain Got lost. I wish I was home in Evelyn's Kitchen With old Gyp curled around my feet (Chorus) I was thinking the song is about a guy who gets caught with Talluleh, Belzonis girl and then ends up getting shot. laying there, past is flashing before his eyes - hoping his pony can find its way back home - Evelyn's Place (who's Evelyn). Not so sure -maybe hes about to get hung (did he shoot Belzoni??) and hes waiting for them to hit his pony's backside-any wondering about its fate...sad song |

| Radio Birdman – Descent into the maelstrom Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I reckon this is one of the best surf songs ever written. Its played like a classic surf riff, surf drums and all. Rob younger was a surfer. Its all about being out on a big day - when the line says "My brain was screaming, My mind said no, My mouth was bleeding, Said you gotta go" gotta go means to take off on the wave. Love the last bit - I'm going down Into the maelstrom Going down Gonna drown Alive alive alive means surfaced after being held down a long time. Its cool how it is written open ended-so that you could interpret it a metaphor for life, troubles - but its really a surf song - loveit... |
