@[eDman:33116] If God existed except as a word / idea invented by man, she would say you're a cock. Plus your orthography is worthy of a meeting with Old Smokey. |

@[RainbowDemon:18944] 'A sell out'? Bit harsh, he's pretty much a slightly dumb hippy dude! Dumb in the best way!
Strange, I can never listen to Dio with Sabs. Just doesn't work, even remotely (for me). So many rate this song and album hiighly - as soon as the vocals come in I just want it to stop and play Masters of Reality or Vol 4. Hey ho, takes all sorts. |

I can only apologise but it's just not true. Any version of Sabbath without Ozzy, bad a singer as he may be, is just pure shite. Don't know why but it's just the way it is. Sorry! Just tried listening to NIB on Live Evil - the music is fantastic but when Dio starts warbling it's just like - turn this off NOW! |

| The Toyes – Smoke Two Joints Lyrics

This is clearly a crypto-Marxist allusion to the factors that keep society balanced. When he 'smokes two joints' expresses a deep realisation that the bonds between honest working class folk are destroyed by the huge growth available from capital investment, compared with overall economic growth, causing instability in capitalist society.
This couldn't be spelt out more clearly than in the reference to war and peace, the eternal crucible capitalism uses to oppress the person in the street. Sadly the authour's parents are complicit in this destructive cycle. |

| The Jam – The Eton Rifles Lyrics

From Wikipedia:
The song recounts a street battle Paul Weller had read about in the newspapers concerning elements of a Right To Work march going through Slough in 1978 breaking off to attack pupils from Eton College who had been jeering the lunchtime marchers (hence Hello, Hooray, an extremist scrape with the Eton Rifles), rashly thinking that a bunch of 'posh schoolboys' would be an easy target: only for the outnumbered but far fitter college pupils to give them a beating.

No better acoustic funk groove ever created. 'Sting Ray Davis' bass wobble vocals on this and the other tracks he is featured on, on Maggot Brain, really works for me every time. |

This is just such a brilliant use of words. Why he has chosen to use Will Oldham as the central cipher for a rampant cock I've got no idea. The music is fantastic. Whatever, the whole thing works. |

I'm not sure if this is an 'everything must die in the end' type summary of the world and its likely end or if it is a dryly satirical run through of the exploitative cycles that our politicians / corporations / needs for more stuff force us to subject the earth to. At any rate it is a brilliant song that captures my imagination. |

I actually like the 'bad' version - though it could never replace the brilliant raw version on Viva. A top ten song for me. Never fails to get me. |

| Fu Manchu – The Falcon Has Landed Lyrics

This song played live was one of my favourite ever listening experiences - and I have seen a lot of different bands. To be honest the lyrics are so cryptic as to be unintelligible to me. The point of songs like this is the wall of sound that hits you and vibrates your body - honestly if you like heavy music this is the absolute apogee played live.
I guess it's about some kind of fast vehicle shenanigans though. |
