Tool – Right in Two Lyrics 2 years ago
It’s almost nonsensical this line…..” where there\'s one they\'re bound to divide it, right in two”. But that’s why I fkn love it. It’s paradoxical, almost even sarcastic or evil (imo) but to me that’s the secret of this song, that line….anyone have thoughts on it. Yea I see the negative connotations of evolution but I would love to hear y’all’s thoughts on what that means to you. Angels fell out of grace with God, now it’s our turn.

Modest Mouse – March Into the Sea Lyrics 2 years ago
@[CoughDownOurSleeves:39641] reading your theory (which I give a big thumbs up to,very concise and thought provoking) but reading this in 2021, 18 months into a world pandemic is kinda jarring. Although we are finding that truth hasn’t matched into the sea, we all just turned our backs on it…humanity is a plague on the earth. You nailed it

Modest Mouse – Wooden Soldiers Lyrics 2 years ago
I don’t care, I always felt I had a special, weird, poetic, and beautifully strange connection with this mans music. He is my fav for a reason, not just because he writes great song after great song after great song but because it’s like he’s reflecting every long lost deep feeling and or pain I have. And Wooden Soldiers is definitely a take on modern culture and how selfish narcissistic and utterly stupid we collectively are but then it’s becomes this breathtaking ode to his children (who to be honest I don’t think he’s trying to hide or veil) and it just comes together with the mantra at the end and touches a part in my soul that is absolute lyrical poetry. It may help that I just had my first child at 41 yrs old and I relate to this song on such a deeper level even as simple as this mantra is, but sometimes the most simplest thing when it’s presented in such a brilliant poetic way is soul shaking. I love this band. I fkn love this band and his music just gets better and better.

Bob Dylan – Ballad of Hollis Brown Lyrics 3 years ago
If my math is correct along with poetry, Hollis Brown blew away his kids, wife, and himself. Damn that’s a dark song and way ahead of it’s time for such content like that to be in a song. Dylan is just the best at everything, not because his songs are poetically exquisite or even catchy in an intelligent way but they simply just move you. They dig there claws in deep and move you.

Bob Dylan – Man Gave Names to All the Animals Lyrics 3 years ago
Always looked passed this album for one reason. I read a really long winded negative comment about this one song and like a mindless sheep I believed it. It’s sad cause Dylan was/is always my favorite artist ever ! And I always regarded his early 1980’s born-again albums as psycho Christian babble. Without really dealing with the material. Now years and years later I find myself slowly listening to Saved and Slow Train Coming and realizing that Dylan’s artistry did not wane whatsoever.

Sure is it Blonde on Blonde or John Wesley Harding, No, but y’all need to remember John Wesley Harding was really his first quote in quote “religious album” and that is an absolute masterpiece. So even though certain early 80’s albums and or songs lack that universal thing we love about Dylan, there is still massive poetic and theological metaphor that truly makes you think and reflect deep on its content.

This specific song I refused to listen to from a scathing review of it and I was foolish and stupid for believing one persons idiotic theory. People really need to take this era of his music seriously. The poetry did not leave people, in ways it kinda grew. ✌????

Bob Dylan – I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You Lyrics 3 years ago
Gladly I will be the first to comment on yet another masterpiece, this song has been on repeat since I first heard it weeks and weeks ago. How does this 79 year old man still do it, Thank you Bob. You are so cherished!

Now after that gushing is over with, onto the meaning, the very first listen I thought of it in a religious tone, kinda like Bob should have written this in the early 80's during his born-again Christianity time. But after a few listens, its taken on a different meaning, I think he's going one up higher and declaring this to God (instead of Jesus) like he has come to terms with every golden moment and every failure he's endured in his life and now has completely submitted and is ready for the big sleep. Or its just yet another perfect love-song that he's been holding long in his heart and finally decided to confess and admit that this person is THE ONE and he aint ever wandering away from her.

Either way, this new album and especially this song is breathtaking, it truly is. Thank You Bob for endless hours of beautiful meditation and self discovery, you've been with me throughout so many dark and painful moments in my life and you are loved greatly, we all have given our hearts to you. Peace

Pearl Jam – Low Light Lyrics 3 years ago
Jeff read The Master and Margarita and pretty much took a huge theme of that book and wrote Pilate, as for low-light, I really like your thoughts. You must have read the book as well otherwise you have a very thought-out succinct interpretation to a vague song. However, the vagaries and overall melancholic of this song is so beautiful, gets me every freegin time

I’m pretty sure this was written by Jeff. And my take is, this is his version of “I Am Mine” with actually more introspective yet poetic lyrics. Find the groove in the sound. Literally and metaphysically.

Bob Dylan – It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry Lyrics 4 years ago
@[icecreaman:34015] or maybe one would submit that your typo was a mere Freudian slip and really Dylan was delivering a giant gay message !! Talk about a revolution, haha sorry couldn’t resist. However, absolutely loved your thoughts on this absolute gem of a song. We need Dylan more then we need a revolution, and we need to chase him in our own independent lane far away but connected and cemented with love.

Pearl Jam – Comes Then Goes Lyrics 4 years ago
At first I was a little disappointed with this song, but like most songs on this album you need to give em a few listens then Boom, they got you. But for this song what did it more, was hearing it was about Chris Cornell. Then it just seems 100x more beautiful in such a sad way. Real emotion. TY Eddie

Fav song on new album, I’m not a trump supporter but I’m also not ashamed to say it, I’m not anti trump either, is what it is, but this song is obvious, and it’s so good I don’t mind the paranoia, hopelessness, surrounding it, it feels like old school PJ with a nice twist.

Pearl Jam – Dance of the Clairvoyants Lyrics 4 years ago
@[ibedave:33721] when you still have to look up words like “clairvoyant” maybe start off with something lighter, like anything on the radio nowadays, and even more, leave interpretation to they who have more than 20 words in there lexicon. Eddie Vedder once was a poet, a soul singer that graced us with non-stop aphorism like “he who forgets will be destined to remember,” and now we have a Talking heads rip off that tries for a knockout punch but leaves us lifers with just the aesthetics of something bigger than it is, and lost in a world of people looking up words to bring meaning to something much more bigger than tangible definitions.

Pearl Jam – Bushleaguer Lyrics 4 years ago
I was at the concert at Nassau Coliseum where they threw batteries at the band after they played this song. I think it was in the PJ20 movie as well...I’m not a republican but sure as hell I ain’t no hypocritical crybaby Democrat, however if you even slightly know Eddie Vedder you then know how much of a bleeding heart liberal he is AND that on the new album of that time there was an anti Bush song so just assholes being assholes.
But 15 years later, I hate to say, I get it, I get why they hurled those batteries at them, us NYers 1 year prior just went through 9/11 and still were grieving and panicking and lost and this fkn out of touch ultra lib comes spewing shit like that when we needed unity more then ever was like having the timing of a wet fart at a eulogy. It was classless and stupid and I’m glad a statement was made, hopefully that opened Vedder’s eyes, oh wait, nope, it didn’t, fast forward to 2019, they put “HERO” next to Christine Blasey Ford’s face on Twitter during the Kavanaugh trial, you know the one that was 110% horse-shit and disappeared directly after he got on, you know, cause most things just disappear like that when they true!! Stop. Just sing and stop talking. Eddie. Sing your fkn songs cause you are in fact great at that, and stop talking cause you are upside down like the rest of the left!! Trump is the president !! The fkn people have spoke, they said a hard NO to the world you want, to the world you think you want, Obama didn’t save it, nor will the next asshole, just sing and then enjoy your billions in silence !

Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics 4 years ago
Tell me, anyone, someone please tell me, who at any point in modern music history has rivaled a song this astute and clever and soul searching like these northwest musicians. Lennon, maybe, Dylan, sure he definitely has reached levels like this but Isaac brings it to a different spot, it’s impossible to describe, if you get it then you are well aware of what I’m trying to say, and if you get it, you know how intangible this is....

Tool – Ticks and Leeches Lyrics 4 years ago
Does this song belong on an album this much ingrained and engrossed in self preservation and fighting self doubt, take what you want and die doesn’t jive with me juxtaposed with the scream of “let go” at the end of the Grudge. I’m not completely attached to this thought I’m giving but mainly just wanted to hear others thoughts on how they feel this song flows with the lateralus theme, and especially as a song that precedes an absolute masterpiece Lateralus

Tool – 7empest Lyrics 4 years ago
No false idols, no more delusion we allow to control ourselves, no more being of a pained memory, a reset is useless if it’s constantly having to be reset over and over, if you want to change (which in itself is an extremely difficult task, it’s easier said then done) be the change you want to see, REMAIN True to it’s impetus, tear down EVERYTHING , kill your ego, break every single solitary chain and doubt and be anew!

Also Shakespeare’s Temptest has a strong theme of revenge, imho I don’t think Maynard is drawing any parallels to it however it’s hard not to notice the political metaphors here and I’d imagine raising the decapitated head of “injustice” and oppression in your hands like a medieval warrior would have its glory, yet remembering that history repeats and reminders are like hurricanes and typhoons (at times when we start forgetting all the monsters we fought against), to not become the beast we fought !

Apocalypse, not an universe dying, a monarchy, a presidency, mom please flush it all away

@[DuncanIdahoTPF:32909] great analysis. Wasn’t into this song the first few times listening to it but after reading a cohesive thought/interpretation such as yours it really becomes quite an intense song. I think”mental illness” is a shortcut one would take into describing the theme here, it’s a neurosis every single person suffers from, I love the self preservation in this song greatly!! Balance and logic and all the beautiful minutia it incorporates are what I get when I look at this song as a means to defeat the inner turmoil we all make on ourselves.

Primus – The Pressman Lyrics 4 years ago
It’s crazy that he wrote this back in 89 when it’s so incredibly similar to the ways of press 30 years later in 2019. “Writing between the lines” & “deal with fantasy” should not be something the press does. It’s facts. Plain and simple like Walter Cronkite delivered but because this particular character is so lonely and envious of others he is transforming facts to skies of gray, imploring through his hypocritical low rent words to be the hero and victor. Such a great song and very much ahead of its time

But I’m just so incredibly happy I had the joy and bewilderment of seeing Jason and a choir perform the hell outta Come Together while on some really good Cush.
