I've been in a Rocky Raccoon mood recently and have listened to this song several times in the past couple weeks. I think this song is about receiving answers to life situations. God gives us a lot of help, (to learn more about Him) in the form of perhaps a firework, an airplane passing by, or even a bible like in the song. I think at first, Rocky didn't think much about seeing this in his room. Chances are he was looking/inspecting the room to see what was in there and he discovered some book titled "Gideon's Bible." Rocky, to me, is thinking this is a specific person that left his book there bu ,mistake. Later, after he 'collapsed in the corner' and 'fell back in his room', he again saw this book that Gideon left. This time perhaps he started to read it and it helped him out, realizing Gideon left it there on purpose, to help him. I have never thought of Rocky as dying, but it makes sense. Another perspective,however is the book he found, was useful for his 'revival' purely physically. He was able to read Gideon's Bible to help get his mind off of 'the girl of his fancy', and to move on with his life. God likes to humble us, and He will, it's just a matter of when, so I like to think it's both, and that he had a change of heart and an understanding that God answers in mysterious ways. The thing to help him recover spiritually, and physically, was there all along. |
