I actually think the girl the singer is in love with has a boyfriend and maybe she's confused over who to be with but I feel like she wants to be with the singer. That's why the girl thinks of the possibilities and such. I think the very first stanza (?) is just a plain "we are going our seperate ways." Could be due to one of them cheating or maybe having to leave (for college or work) and the other questions who the other will be with when not with them type of issue. That's why he asks to keep him updated. Let him know what's going on and if there is someone else. He then talks about meeting someone else, but all he sees is her. Then he talks about being in their teens and how it wasn't too great of a relationship. Then a reminder that the girl he might've met just reminds him of her. I think by crash, I feel he is saying just let go and fall in love again with me. Crash is used almost dramatically because obviously crash usually means a strong impact between two opposing forces so he wants her to crash into whatever is holding her back and he'll be there to hold her after the impact because this is their second chance to make things right. Then states how time has passed, they've grown up and changed, but now nothing can stop them from being together. SO I LOVE THIS STANZA: "And I know, I've said this all before, but opposites attract. We try and run away, but end up running back." So powerful in my opinion. He is basically saying I know I said we are meant for eachother but it is indeed true. That even though they've tried leaving it behind they come back to it. And then in come the Crash portion of the song. Basically I feel this is a song about true love. They met in their teens, it didn't work out so well due to whatever reasons, and now later on in life they are given a second chance and he is saying let's just do this and to not hesistate. BTW love the refrence to "Always Atrract" because I loved that song and it's cute he mentioned it. It's like paying tribute to their first album:] |

So I might be way off, but I'll give it a shot. "Must be something in the way you walk/Must be something in the way you talk I'm not sure just yet/Must be something in the way you dream/You just go home all the thirteen days in between you and I" The writer (w) is stating reasons why they have feelings for this person (p), but still not fully sure. "This is me before I fall apart/This is me before I come undone/I've been tired for days and days/I've been tired for days and days" This portion throughout the song is W stating the state (mentally/emotionally) that they are in and how they are tired. "What's your matter that the fortune don't/All the beauty and I say, "Stop, why won't you be mine?"/Must be something in the way you taste/Lips are magic sauce and I say, "Stop, why won't you be mine?"" W is now asking simply why. Now when W says "..the way you taste" it leads me to believe that maybe P could've been leading W on. W got hopes up from that, but to only end up asking "why not". "Well, it could have been a month or it could have been a year/But I, I gave up long before, long before you cared/Her art inspired me to, to do my best/And to paint my music like, like I saw it best/And she says I grew up well, well.../Well, I grew up strong cause no one's got my back/No one's gonna write me my songs/Could have been a month or it could have been a year/But I, I gave up long before" W is saying that they gave up on P being theirs a long time ago since P did not seem to care about W in the same way until now. W saying "her art" I feel represents P's actions therefore P's actions inspired W's work (writing music) and pushed W to prove they were worth caring for before. W kept pushing. I think W is saying this later, it obviously has been some time since parting ways (possibly due to W's pursuit of a music career and P moved on with their life.) so when W and P see eachother again, P is saying W grew up and W is stating they had to. The music business isn't easy, so it would make sense why W goes off say "I grew up stronger, No one's got my back, No one's gonna write my songs". "I've been tired for days" Makes sense, because W is chasing the music career and it isn't an easy job.. |

Lol I like the Cure lovesong reference though. Like, if you listen to it Robert Smith is basically saying no matter what "I will always love you" and it even sounds like this song. So, i will morph nurse2be84's meaning with the others and say that indeed Tegan is begging for a chance to fix this broken relationship because obviously she love the person. (why else would anyone try to fix something broken? | Well I know I've seen live videos before she performs the songs from Sainthood and im noticing that she says something along the lines that she was trying to not write about love cause she was sick of seeing/hearing about it from people close to her (ex: friends) and herself always writing about love. So she wrote about things around her, and lol that they all seem to still be about love. Lol so basically the things she attempted to write about (ex: city, neighbors she didn't really know, etc) failed because either way she still wrote about love. Haha I think this just proves when we write about stuff we still put ourselves in it by morphing the situation into what we see but yet it looks like something else to others at a glance. It makes me think of being broken after a relationship and she is trying to get away from truth that she is hurt. So, what do most do? (Rhetoric) most tend to go out and try to find someone else. Mostly for sex, but some try to find someone else to date. Either way, your trying to find a rebound. "I kneel, to condition all the feelings that I feel" So I think the writer is talking to herself between third and first person. Here it is first person and she is stating she is engaging in sex or a sexual act to try and "condition" or fix the fact the ex is on her mind. "Slow it down, you have a tendency to rush back into your past slow it down, you transfer all your weight and disappear" In third person she is trying to warn herself (like she is someone else giving warning ) that she needs slow down because she tends to go to that place in her mind where the ex consumes her. Hence disappear, she gets stuck there. "You kneel, to condition all the feelings that you feel" In third person she is restating how she engages in something sex related to momentarily fix the fact the ex is still lingering in her mind. "I've got a red belt around my mind my hands tied up around these words" Like the 1984 reference above I think she is using red belt in the fact that she knows the meaningless sex is a momentary fix and you still end up feeling shitty after. So the red belt is her lying to her self that it is fine even though she knows truth. Hands represents actions and words represents the truth that the red belt is masking. She is doing nothing to stop from engaging into something sexual even though truth is, she is still gonna be broken at the end. "I wish you'd call, but I know that you're out tonight" She wants the ex to call, but her ex is going out. You see this makes me think that it has been some time since the break up, but she was holding on because she possibly loves the ex, can't think of being with someone else, etc. Either way, ex has moved on and she hasn't. "My ears fill with the sound of you kneeling my ears fill with the sound of descent my ears fill with the sound of you arching" In first person she is going to that part of her mind where the ex is at. While she is having meaningless sex and knows the ex is probably out, she is thinking of those times her and her ex had sex. | I agree with you in a sense. I don't think the band name will die, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are several changes in the rest of the band. Not gonna lie, Ronnie is the reason I like Falling In Reverse, but I got a huge question, did Ronnie recruit them or they recruited Ronnie? Because if Ronnie recruited them then technically I think the band in a sense will survive. Usually when bands are looked at we talk most about the vocalist and guitarist who are also most of the time the bands main lyricist. (I said most because there are a few like Rush where the drummer plays the biggest role in lyric writing.) So all in all the reason they got signed was because Ronnie still had a contract with Epitaph, before he was jailed he was preparing to start a new project and didn't have to worry about getting signed because his contract didn't end. | |

I just can't tell if it's about an addict who still is using because in a sense it can be up until where he admits to being an addict which is usually when they attempt to get better. Or if it is about an addict who is struggling with the attempts to stay clean and temptation. I think it is more likely the first, but feel it can be either or... I love the humor throughout the album. Like I think all the songs except the last two have wonderful meanings some better than others, but the use of witty, rhetoric, and smartass remarks makes them seem less serious, yet still touching. So this is my opinion. I have a feeling it will be long so sorry. Verse 1: Pretty simple, he feel so deep due to the fact he never faced his demons (things that have happened that haunt him in a sense), but he survived. "Lurking at the edge of my bed/get the fuck out of my head" I feel is the fact he is an addict who is sober now, but will always face that temptation even if he is around sober people. So, using a bed room and mind setting of where he is haunting are the most personal places, especially his mind therefore he is telling temptation to stop following him to bed in a sense and also saying to leave his mind. I feel this is almost like an introduction to a story he is telling, and as if he is going to tell us how he is better now, when he first started getting better, when he finally came to a breaking point, how he began to fix it, and the song ending with him fixing a lot. The reason I do not say completely fix everything because you can face your past, right many wrongs, but you always fight temptation as an addict which is the reason for those last two lines. Chorus: So I feel "graceful" represents one of two things, one an actual person or two god. I normally don't add a religious aspect, but because it really could be either and I prefer it being a person since I relate, but when you link everything together god sounds really well. So, when I mean god, I mean he put faith in god to lead him in the right direction, help him face the demons he must, and give him strength to become and remain sober. The goodbye I believe doesn't mean goodbye for good but more of a goodbye for now. Like, I'm off to do what I can in a good way, finish facing my demons since that does not happen overnight, and hopefully attempt and succeed to right the wrongs he has made. Now onto the chorus meaning, either this person or god helps him change his bad ways and made him a better man ("who I am today"). Now if you go with the god theory, it could be how god helped him change his ways. Also, thankful that god didn't let him die because he feels since he did so much wrong he would've gone to hell ("burning flames"). So he was given a chance to do good and gain redemption by fixing the wrongs he could along with other things that could be seen as redemption. (Ex: helping somebody, and what better way to help than provide lyrics that someone can see motivational and those who've experienced struggle can continue moving forward) All that making him who he is now, a better person. Verse 2: The dark cloud symbolizes the demons he still hasn't faced yet. He has faced some, but hasn't faced them all. "and if I die before I wake/Tell the devil I'm on my way" can be seen as him still feeling he no matter what is a bad man. Or if you look at it through the god theory, he feels he hasn't fully gained redemption and would still go to hell if he were to die, therefore I feel he purposely makes the line "and if i die.." exactly the same as the bedtime prayer. Again, the last two lines about lurking and to get out of his head hold the same meaning of temptation due to his addiction. Chorus: Same meaning as above. Bridge: This is the point he Chorus: same. Last verse: "Picking up...exit door" is how he still currently is facing those demons (when you face you're past, it isn't something that happens overnight. It can take weeks, months, or years.) I feel when you are battling demons you see that window or exit door but technically can't use it until you've completely faced them and let go of them. "This boulder on my shoulder it got heavier and colder" The boulder are the demons he never faced causing him to do wrong and become even more consumed by both past and new demons. "Til the day that I got sober, now it's slowly rolling over" Meaning that once he got sober and stopped escaping reality, he was able to begin the process of facing the past, always trying to correct all the wrongs possible, and that finally allowed the "boulder" to start rolling over. I love how he added slowly because it's a process, but just beginning the process is such a huge step and when doing so you must realize it doesn't all disappear in hours. Next line he apologizes to all the people he's done wrong. Next I hear "To all the girls, hearts I broke, whose tears I made them cry" basically apologizing to the girls he's hurt. "I know it's been a while/And you have travelled many miles/To let them win is not my style/I wrote this song to make you smile" this is directed towards the fans, and "them" I feel represents his demons, to his enemies, and to even ETF. As I said in my verse one meaning that I feel there is a certain pattern. Now if you look at verse one, the chorus, then the bridge, the chorus, then verse two, back down to the last chorus, and end it by going to the final verse of the song it is almost like a story. You have your intro, the chorus is like that thing that causes him to stop and think, he realizes he's been running and now stops, the chorus affects him again but makes he want to better himself, he has begun to start to slowly change but obviously fights temptation, the chorus again helps him continue, ending with the last verse restating what he did, how he is still working on it, and beginning to right the wrongs. So, in general I feel the song is about a girl, and the drug-like reference is to give a stronger understanding of what exactly this girl meant. Now in my own interpretation. I feel the girl is someone he just met, but fireworks are going off in him. I think touch signifies more of a brush of hands, arms, etc. And clutch is more like a hug. I feel even after his heart break and closing himself up he figured this was maybe more of a lust but realizing it isn't and he opens himself up to her letting her in, he falls in love, and thought she was too but she wants to be more of a "close friends" situation. He doesn't get why, he found someone he fell in love with when he wasn't looking, so he keeps her around even if it's painful because he has hope but he also did let her in. Then when he finally starts losing feelings for her in that sense, she wants him causing confusion from the denial earlier and him to ask if he should cave or not, but he takes the risk and does because he honestly loves her. The "after a year and six months" makes me think he is talking about the whole time they had known each other not just dated. She basically breaks his heart, he goes off saying he's basically causing her pain like he had warned, but he never did cause her the pain in return and let her go. When he insinuates he kills himself is more of a metaphor to show he basically feels beyond hurt, but he feels taking his own life and his last words basically being i love you no matter will hurt her more than any physical pain he can cause. Just my opinion. |

I think it means one of two things to most people. 1) The more obvious is getting over a drug addiction (particularly cocaine) Or 2) The fact of overcoming what ever is thrown at you. Getting rid of the ugly from the past and moving forward. It is so true how snow covers up all the bad. Like, even after a blizzard people still will go outside and play in the snow because it naturally has that pureness and beauty compared to plain grass that for all we know isn't green beneath. That's what I loved about living in northern areas with snow because it gives off that feeling of everything is fine. (Or at least for me it always has.) I actually like both meanings to the song and I feel it was obviously done purposely that way. Instead of appealing to just a certain group of people with struggles he is reaching out and telling everyone that it will be fine to move forward. I know the first verse I really feel the first meaning because of issues I was running from and resorting to drugs. (It wasn't cocaine but you still feel a connection.) Then as the song moves on I think of those things we always want to put behind us and cover up. This song has really helped me personally just let things be in the past. Each year I think of a new layer of snow laying out upon the mistakes or things I wish to let go. All in all amazing song, and I love how I remember hearing this song when I was younger, riding in the back seat of my dads jeep, and all the different music he would introduce to me. |
