Ray LaMontagne – Jolene Lyrics 10 years ago
This is such a beautiful song. To me, this song is about balancing struggles in life. Life on the road, love and addiction. Cocaine flame is the practice of lighting the pipe over an open flame, like a stove. Holding her once but losing her just the same because he looses everything, always because he's an addict. It's too late for him to get straight so he finds himself in the same old scenarios (drunk and bloody in the ditch). The reference of the Jolene holding a picture of her holding a picture of him is no coincidence. Its the result of him never being there with her (Great metaphor!!) A nine pound hammer is a type of marijuana that claims to have a pain relief effect. So the character needs Jolene or a nine pound hammer,to hang onto, either will do to relieve the pain that he has. And at the end of it all, he still doesn't know what love means. Great Tune! So much meaning in this song

Damien Rice – Colour Me In Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is about a man who has spent a lot of his life being disappointed in love. After being hurt he has built up walls and accepted the idea of being alone. That is until he meets someone who he can't help but fall in love with. This song is about the internal struggle that we face to let down our walls and accept love. To allow someone into our most intimate parts. To wipe away one's past and let love colour us in.

Damien Rice – Trusty And True Lyrics 10 years ago
I just saw Damien Rice in concert. He explained that this song is about letting go of regret. He remembers his Grandfather laying on his death bed before he spoke of the things in his life that he wished he could take back. The thought of waiting until the end of your life to face your regrets seemed terrible. He wanted to people to hear this song and let go of all the things they regret and start fresh now. Shed the baggage of regret now before its too late and don't be held down by the weight that regret can have on you.

Counting Crows – A Murder Of One Lyrics 16 years ago
I interpret this song as the singer being in love with a taken woman. They have a sexual relationship but she is not yet ready to leave the safety of her relationship.

Early in the song, the singer wants to talk to her through the window..."he doesn't have to know"
He is trying to convince her to leave her realtionship. "we can take it slow". Her life is a shame because she
is living a double life. She has sunken back into her safety zone and he is wondering where they have gone.

Love is just a dream for her. She dreams of the perfect life with our singer, but doesn't have the guts to act on it.

"open up your eyes and see the life you are wasting every day you are with him"

Check out Allison Crowe's version of this song on piano....Unreal!

Hootie & the Blowfish – Goodbye Lyrics 16 years ago
This song as well as the song "Let her cry" is written for Daruis' live in Girlfriend and mother of his first daughter. They never married. Darrius married his current wife Beth in 2000.

Darius is big into golfing and is good friends with Tiger Woods. The Chris he refers to in this song is his long time friend and PGA tour golfer Chris Smith.

I think when he says: "I just wanna touch you girl. I wanna feel you close to me. Without your love I would give up now and walk away so easily. So maybe while you're young We'll figure out together
that even with the pain, there's a remedy and we'll be all right" I think this is a reference to his daughter in the midst of the break up.

Damien Rice – Elephant Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a tough one...but I'll give it a shot.
I think this song is about a man cheating on his partner and how he needs to stop to avoid hurting her.
It focuses on the attraction to another person while your in a relationship during hard times.
Painting an elephant means painting his heart or captivating him. Although the girl he is cheating with fulfils his lonliness and hornyness, she can never fullfill the love he has for his partner.

"So why did you have to lie..ect". This could represent the resentment for his partner who he loves. The pillow lying beside him every night is easier to touch than she is.

The next stanza he is talking to himself. Wondering what he should do because he has sinned. Does he forget everything? Does he sit withing the picture he has drawn? Does he forget the breeze? (representing the calmness and security of a relationship)

What the point of trying?? His partner will be gone as soon as she finds out. Should he lie and keep this going?? But either way.. "this has got to die"
