Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics 12 years ago
I just listened to it and for some reason came up with the idea of Elton and Bernie being afraid of being left behind on the music scene. They rocketed to the top very fast and they both might be thinking; "This can't last very long, I don't know if we can maintain this."

I think that kind of plays off of your idea because we both think they are about a rock star. JMO

Elton John – Island Girl Lyrics 12 years ago
I also want to add that the final line sounds like she kills her Johns after they have sex with her.

Elton John – Island Girl Lyrics 12 years ago
I believe that this song is about a woman who comes from Jamaica and finds out her only way to make a living is to prostitute herself. Meanwhile there are a lot of men back in Jamaica that would love to take her for a wife. However, she's stuck in her prostitution life wherever she's gone. JMO

Elton John – Little Jeannie Lyrics 12 years ago
I see it as a man who knows a woman who's gone through a litany of bad relationships, guys taking advantage of her and making her a fool. The protagonist has always loved her but she had a thing for these bad guys. Finally she realizes that the protagonist of the song is someone who will treat her right and comes to him.

This causes extreme happiness for the protagonist and makes his life suddenly shiny and new.

Just guessing at the acrobat reference. He wants her to take a chance like a circus performer doing something dangerous without a net.

I love that too. You're right it is a great metaphor.

Steely Dan – Slang of Ages Lyrics 12 years ago
This is a song about a guy trying to pick up a girl using all of the cool slang from throughout the years. It's pretty funny.

Steely Dan – Kid Charlemagne Lyrics 12 years ago
I agree with you. I always thought it referred to the rise of cocaine taking over the acid crowd.

I wouldn't call it a tribute. To me it comes off as a sardonic look at him. JMO

Boz Scaggs – Georgia Lyrics 12 years ago
That's what I think too. A guy was lied to by a young girl about her age and he was too spellbound by her beauty to question it. Now he's waiting to be let out so he can get back together with her. Hopefully she will be of age when he does.

Eric Clapton – Let It Rain Lyrics 12 years ago
My brother insists that Clapton doesn't play the guitar solo on this song. I forget who he said played it. Does anyone know if he's right and the guitar solo wasn't done by Clapton?

The Beatles – I Me Mine Lyrics 12 years ago
That makes the most sense to me. That's how I've interpreted it. Everyone's saying it would seem to rule out the song being about one person. Also, as you point out, Harrison's religious beliefs were a big part of him music. IIRC, What is Life is a song about God.

Paul McCartney – Medicine Jar Lyrics 12 years ago
Medicine Jar isn't a Paul McCartney song. It was written by Jimmy McCulloch and Colin Allen. Colin Allen wrote the lyrics but it's ironic that McCulloch died of a heroin overdose.
