Beat Radio – Sunday Matinee Lyrics 13 years ago
I LOVE THIS BAND.

Now that we've got that out of the way, I'm so surprised they don't have more comments on this song. "Treetops," being their most popular song has only four, but this one is more recent and it's catchy. I love it.

I've heard Beat Radio compared to everything from The Format to Broken Social Scene to old-Jimmy Eat World and they sound amazing in my opinion, but their biggest feat is in the expressive lyrics.

"We could play our bad day down, hide behind a wall of sound, communicate with our eyes only."

They made a completely non-verbal but very common human interaction sound beautiful. They do this ALL THE TIME.
I can't get enough of this music, it's some of the crazy-most-played on my iPod and it's perfect for anything; versatile. I enjoy it most while driving, but I have before listened to Beat Radio while running, hanging out in my room, and sleeping. :)

Maria Taylor – Leap Year Lyrics 14 years ago
The melody of this song is infectious, as is Maria Taylor, period.

Pretty straightforward in the meaning, but I have to say it's one of the best lyrics on the passage of time I've ever heard.

Stars – Your Ex-Lover Is Dead Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this is about the loose ends of a physically geared relationship. Like, they didn't know each other at all, he just wanted her. He couldn't remember her name, and she sees through him ("now you're outside me you see all the beauty repent all your sin").

"I will give you this confession, I am taking you with me."

This song wins awards for me. So straightforward, yet well written and musically interesting. :)

I love the thought that we're all just little delicate spiders and our lives are little delicate webs.

Perhaps we have little delicate problems, too?

Lovedrug – Blackout Lyrics 14 years ago
My personal interpretation actually lies more in the realm of just understanding other people and the consequences of assumptions.

Sometimes, the most unlikely of situations can meet the most innocent people, and it can get us off and make us reconsider what we take for granted at face value upon this realization.

My sophomore year of high school, in a nutshell.

About loss, change, and seeking redemption from what you regret.

People In Planes – Pretty Buildings Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't know if it's the key the song is in, or the fact that I listened to it amidst a breakup that I couldn't control as I watched the person I love the most fall into a really horrible abyss, or what. But this is the most depressing song EVER, to me.

It's beautiful, but it makes me want to throw up all of the knots of worry that form in my stomach.

"So when you reach the top, just throw yourself off."

This song just sounds like giving up to me. Call me a pessimist, but it makes me think there's no point to life, haha.

The Weepies – World Spins Madly On Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a really, really relatable song.

Particularly when you wake up and wish you're dead with an aching in your head. :P

This seems to be a song about moving on and slowly trudging through life when you know you've wronged someone.

Shout Out Louds – Wish I Was Dead, Pt. 2 Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about attempting not to think about what's bothering you, and how it ultimately takes so much effort that in the end you feel, yes, that it would be easier to die.

I want to say that this is more about love, but the childhood theory is definitely interesting. Kudos for thinking outside of the box.

The O.C. mixes host a variety of obscure music. This particular one included Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" and Stars' "Your Ex-lover is Dead", personally, two of my favorite songs. It can't be all that unfortunate, eh?

Jimmy Eat World – Dizzy Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree...this compliments 23 nicely.

And it competes for my favorite JEW song. Ever. There's a lot of emotion in this one, and I find it truly gripping.

"I told you as I hovered, "I never felt this way," you said, "I have the shot that stopped my clock, baby, it's okay." you said you never had regrets, but jesus, is there someone yet, who got that wish? Did you get yours, babe?"

Ahh. :)
I really don't think the "shot that stopped my clock" was in any way a reference to contraception or babies. It's about being in love...about having that shot with someone who could change everything for you. For the "characters," per say, in this song, it's the shot that they left behind.

Jimmy Eat World – 23 Lyrics 14 years ago
I relate the meaning to this a lot with "Dizzy" from their Chase This Light album.

Also, it has definitely been melded to fit the situations of my own life, but hey, that's music.

I think that this song is referring to a relaionship that doesn't work out, even though it's right...some other factors got in the way, and it's one of those "pleasepleaseplease come around" sort of things.

Like, despite how many shitty things have happened, I still love you and hope that someday (even if I'm 23) we can fix things.

Is that not the prettiest song?

Jack's Mannequin – MFEO: Part 1: Made for Each Other/Part 2: You Can Breathe Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't get the cocaine reference. Haha.

BUT, I could sort of see it as the progression of a relationship. Starting out, everything's perfect, reminds me of summer...they're made for each other, in love, etc.

A possible intermission in the relationship?

Then you come to "You Can Breathe" and it's pretty much about getting it on...for old time's sake, maybe?

I love, love, love Jack's. SoCo and Jack's Mannequin are pretty different to me, even though you see some mixing that is inevitable when the two have such similar origins. The two bands have separate purposes on a whole...Jack's Mannequin, given the name, follows Andrew through his stages of cancer. Something Corporate is a go-to, default emo band, which is great, too.

Haha...does anyone else hear a little echo of Konstantine in this?

Honestly, one of my favorites.

Andrew McMahon should sing ME to sleep. :)

Jimmy Eat World – Dizzy Lyrics 14 years ago
Oh man. Dizzy and I go way back before I could actually relate to it. I actually kinda joined this place because I wanted to give my two cents to this one song. :P

For the lyrics, yeah, there are a couple of mistakes, but that's kind of irrevalant.

*sigh*

Ohkay. So. This song focuses on two people who have a really strong connection for each other but had differences based around time, and broke up for awhile. Now, he still has feelings for her, even though he complied to the break up, but now that she's trying to move on, his feelings suddenly kick in to high gear and he begins to realize that he wants to try again, although there are definitely points of resignation where he also understands that it can't happen again.

Yeah. It happened to me too, Adkins.
