Beyoncé – Run the World (Girls) Lyrics 13 years ago
I kind of love this song. Sure there might be a measure of female chauvinism, but
1.) Beyonce is shutting this down. Alpha Female.
2.) The dance moves in the video are incredibly sick
3.) Girl power never hurt anyone
and
4.) For all of the male chauvinism out there, in piles and piles and piles, I think women deserve an anthem, even if it is a little "we're better than you."

And that is my opinion.

Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics 14 years ago
also also. :)

if he had stayed with his first wife, and lived peacefully, there would have been NO mention of either his first wife or Samson. they would have lived happily and quietly, so then the bible wouldn't mention them.
doesn't that make more sense than all of the twisted delilah stuff?

cutting his hair fits with the usual abdicating a power in favor of love trope.

Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics 14 years ago
"For me (being a pastor) it seems clear, the Regina Spektor is singing about Samsons first
wife (a Philistian girl from Timna), which her father married to someone else, after Samson
had killed 30 Philistians out of anger about a lost bet.
Because of this Samson burned the fields of the Philistians, which in revenge burned his wife
together with her whole family.

Regina rewrites the story. What if Samsons first love would have cut his hair - not his second wife
Delia? He would have lost his power and would not have been able to kill anybody. They could have
lived happy ever after. Samson would not have become the great and fatal hero. The would have been
no heroic story to be told in the bible or in history books, just a little love story. "

This actually makes a lot of sense.... taking everything in the song together. because delilah didn't love him. I mean, that's twisted. she betrayed him.
so saying that it was someone else entirely, not discussed in the bible, is the simplest answer. Occam's Razor. :)
also, food for thought, Philistines are sometimes associated with red hair. that, and the bible DID mention samson and delilah, so why would the speaker say that it didn't? and "i loved you first", well delilah loved him second. so. i agree with the conjecture above, that it was his first wife and this is a revisionist history, of what could have been.

Death – Crystal Mountain Lyrics 14 years ago
... I'm a Christian.

and I'm not brainwashed by organized religion. That's an extremely ignorant and closed-minded thing to say.

In fact, in a lot of ways the "organized church" doesn't agree with me...
because I follow Christ and not just the strange, amorphous, oft-hypocritical thing called the Church.

Because, well, I've realized that Christianity is more simple than all of this. I'm not deluded. I think about things. And I know God in the way that I know that people love me. I couldn't actually prove it empirically, but I know in the very core of who I am. I am not trapped. If I am a slave, I am a slave to kindness and love. I am not being duped, and wounded. I try not to be a hypocrite, but I don't claim to be perfect.

That's what being a Christian is: it's following --no-- it's chasing love. It's a commitment to a man who loves me, too. I don't have all the answers, but I refuse to be stuck, immobile, not choosing a course of action. If I assume from ignorance, atheists do, too. And, agnosticism is "choosing immobility as a means of transportation." I have chosen a path, just as others have. Sometimes, it looks humanist: "to him who knows to do good, and doesn't do it, it is counted as evil." and yet, there's a bigger component, that I trust God and "it is counted as goodness, and [I am] called the friend of God."

True Christianity is a friendship and a simple way, not a corporation of deep-pocketed politicians and tricksters.
