| Everything but the Girl – Wrong Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I think the lyrics is composed on two layers: verses (past) and chorus (present/future). Verses: persona describes feelings towards life and relationships in general. It seems that (s)he wants to experience as much as possible, relationships are just a part of it, they seem quite artificial and can't last long. And then (chorus), denies it "I was wrong" because has found... I don't know, someone could call it "true love" |

| David Bowie – Who Can I Be Now? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| "metamorphic illumination of the future" - this way I'm feeling right now about the song | |
| Paula Abdul – Rush, Rush Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| The videoclip with Keanu suggests a romantic love between two young people while Paula sings about her teenage fascination of cocaine, this fascination perhaps includes also dreaming about love towards someone ;) | |
| R.E.M. – West Of The Fields Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Just like "In my liiiiiiiiiiife" in "Shaking through" is the most powerful phrase, here - at least for me - without any doubts is already mentioned "The animals, how strange... Try, try to stick in it" Every time I hear it, I've got a strong impression it refers to killing animals. People can't understand why people kill each other, but it's rather commonly accepted that people kill animals to manufacture food and clothes, despite it isn't necessary to be fed and clothed. It suits to the overtone of the lyrics which mentions the death theme in general. |

| David Bowie – Who Can I Be Now? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I'm surprised seeing just one comment to this beautiful ballad. The whole "Young Americans" album is excellent, in Bowie's discography I appreciate only "1.Outside" more. | |
| INXS – Taste It Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The song is from 1992, Michael was hit the same year in Denmark, I don't know whether the album was released after the incident and the song refers to it. | |
| R.E.M. – King Of Birds Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| "Everybody hit the ground"... no matter how high you fly, you'll die :( ambiguous song, there's an optimistic dimension put in there, some people "fly away" to create a "giant" | |
| Dire Straits – Brothers In Arms Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think that "Baptisms of Fire" would refer to the process of Christianization. Terms like "village" or "farm" would have been very common as a home of people who had to die being converting from Paganism into Christianity. So in my opinion the lyrics tell the story about sad occurrences in the Middle Ages but is very powerful and contains universal meaning adequate to all wars... | |
| Beck – Loser Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think it would have been a drug session with friends. They spend a good time together in front of TV, taking drugs (maybe LSD, maybe maryjane, maybe other stuff), talking, laughing, everything is recorded, later on you listen the tape and choose "the best fragments" of own statements of the trip, mixes it up and you've got the lyrics for "Loser", chorus would have been the only aware concept just before recording the song ;) | |
| The Beatles – I Should Have Known Better Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| IMO this song is fiddly. Theoretically simple lyrics about a boy who felt in love with a girl. In fact he realized she treated him only as a toy whilst he wanted to spend the rest of life with her. The song is about immature teenage fascination. | |
| Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Simple lyrics but sung with tremendous depth | |
| Madonna – Material Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I like... "Only boys that save their pennies Make my rainy day" It's ambiguous ;) |
|
| A-Ha – Crying In The Rain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song like any other creates a picture of flying. | |
| U2 – Running To Stand Still Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Bono sang this song amazingly on a concert included to "Rattle & Hum" film. Just before famous verse "You got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice" he was singing "But I only see one way out" with almost crying voice. This moment is absolutely stunning! I don't know how to explain but in that moment he showed pain of drug-addicted woman... :( |
|
| INXS – Not Enough Time Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Agree, one of the most amazing love songs! Very dreamy too ;) The narrator is a little upset because "everything flows, nothing stands still", times passes, lover either... | |
| INXS – Fair Weather Ahead Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I like the most... "History's written always red It's pages are painful and clear" Pople kill themselves for ages :( |
|
| INXS – The Stairs Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I don't like this song but it's one of the best lyrics of INXS. I don't think this song refers only to America. In my opinion refers to the people who live around the world. They share the same problems each day, no matter where they live. The narrator believes that people will find a way for better future. So generally it's an optimistic song albeit the stairs lead in two directions, up and down, so it might suggest that some people go ahead with hope, the other ones suffer depression. | |
| Tricky – Strugglin' Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Hard track, I needed long time to like it. For me the narrator used some drugs and found himself on the verge of commiting suicide. | |
| Tricky – Bubbles Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I love the song although is very hard for me to understand. My only thoughts: lyrics refers to the incarnation. "bubble" = "world", "deceiver" = "god" |
|
| Tears for Fears – Woman In Chains Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The message of the song is clear: time to finish with patriarchal society to make a better world. | |
| Elton John – The Greatest Discovery Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Beautiful song musically and lyrically. Such a weird concept to tell the story seen in eyes of 4 or 5 year-old child! | |
| INXS – Old World New World Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Recently my favorie song... Time passes by through the ages but human condition is still the same and people struggle with the same problems, they still don't understand the meaning of love and death, all relligions try to explain something but you will never know the truth "till you die".... but "you can listen", scout around and try to understand... | |
| Tracy Chapman – Fast Car Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is extraordinary trip in time. She sings in present but thanks to the chorus we know that's a story abot the past. I don't know any other song with such an amazing construcion. Actually the song tells in 5 minutes exactly the same what a good director can show in a film during 90 minutes or more. Amazing talent to write so powerful lyrics and insert it in 5 minutes of melody. | |
| Madonna – Live To Tell Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think Madonna sings about personal illumination. She's convinced that found accidentally the truth and she'd like to share illumination with the others. I don't know why but have strong feeling that supposed illumination is connected with her childhood and relations with her father. | |
| Eurythmics – Here Comes The Rain Again Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think the song is about a woman who felt deeply in love with mysterious man. It's a dualistic for her because she in the same breath desires and is afraid of him. | |
| U2 – Running To Stand Still Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
My 5 cents only to one the phrase... "She runs through the streets With her eyes painted red Under black belly of cloud in the rain In through a doorway she brings me White gold and pearls stolen from the sea She is raging She is raging And the storm blows up in her eyes" I think this verse refers to the action after the heroin trip. She is already almost awared but still disorientated and wants to show someone (Bono?) something what exists only in her imagination but then she realized that some things (pearls stolen from the sea) don't exist, thererfore "she is raging"... She lost again contact with reality and it's really hard to accept. For me the most precipitous moement of the song :( She could "Step on a steam train" or "step out of the driving rain" but she "stepped into the sea" this time. The lyrical entity concludes it's too late to help her because she mires in vicious circle... "Suffer the needle chill She's running to stand... Still." Anyway it's only speculation because I never took heroin so I can only guess. Beautifully sad song. |
