Black 47 – James Connolly Lyrics

I guess I'm an optimist in that I watch mass media and still have hopes of finding something new and interesting on it. Such was the case when I watched Conan O'brien in the 90's and came across these guys. It was the first time I heard the word proletariat on television (I don't recall them uttering the words "international revolution"). Very powerful stuff. I went to my local music store the next day and picked up Fires of Freedom (thank God for independent owners, I never came across their recordings at Walmart). I have been a fan of theirs since then. |

Thank you, ace drums. That is how I always heard this song. "And the thing I hate, oh lord, is staying up late to watch a debate on some nation's fate." I hate to admit it, but Phil Collins came up with some of their better lyrics, especially Driving The Last Spike. |

I had heard somewhere that WOTS was based on Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. But just because a song was inspired by something, it does not mean that it has to adhere to it exactly.
There is also a song by Marillion called Childhood's End? It has no relation to the book, but I assume their lyricist, Fish, knew where the name came from.
In the Seconds Out songbook, the lyrics were "folks on the rock", not "fox on the rocks". Unfortunately, my Foxtrot CD is not at hand. |
