| The Smiths – Unloveable Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think there's meant to be the obvious choice of "It's about lonliness" but I do agree that it's too OTT for that to be the true meaning of the song. He's written it so that it can be for everyone who feels like that, but I agree it must also be a jibe at his critics. Morrisey is mocking people who give him bad reviews, saying he knows that they hate him, but that he gives his life to "them" [i.e. the world, through the form of his songs] anyway. | |

Tim Booth once said that "this is a song about absolute misery, feeling entirely alone, it's about being awake at 4am and having no one to talk to" It's meant to be comforting for people in this situation, saying that they're not alone, and they'll get through it. It's a very personal song for him. |

| The Beautiful South – Song For Whoever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think that this song is a criticism of Pop stars who start shallow, futureless relationships simply for inspiration for songwriting, with no consideration of the girls' feelings, hence the "I forget your name" line. | |

I don't think it's about the church so much, I think it's more about the culture of the people, in the line "the giver not knowing where their money's going is as sinful as throwing away" is about these people who think their righteous for giving to the church, but actually they're no better than this person stealing from the "offering hat" in order to sort his life out. Definately someone trying to flee America |

It's not just about World War 2, but all wars. Paul Heaton, the song writer, feels very strongly about politicians who send millions of soliders off to their deaths but would never dream of going themselves. Whilst it specifically refers to WWII in the song, it's meant to be applied to all wars since then as well. I think he's saying that the politicians can claim that it's about patriotic, but how patriotic can they be if they won't fight themselves? And is being patriotic a good enough reason to kill so many people if it isn't enough for them to go to their own deaths? Obviously Paul heaton thinks not, and that's one of the key messages of the song. |
