| Meshuggah – New Millennium Cyanide Christ Lyrics

"The characters I am made into a word complete then I'll be the new norm" really says a lot to me regarding the song's meaning. I think this song is telling us that we have the power inside us to do so much more than we are doing, and it's only because we don't realize we have this power. The narrator is setting an example for others to follow by reforming himself into a new, more capable being, but nevertheless a being that was inside him all along. By using words like "baptized" and "christ," the narrator also shows us that the only religious beliefs we need to have are beliefs in ourselves. We can be the divine ones if we so choose.....
great fucking song, by the way. |

The song being called "Porcelain Heart" definitely means something. I think it makes a statement about relationships of any kind. They are beautiful but can easiliy be broken. These lyrics tell me a story about a man who loved his family but had a very rough past, and needed to escape to another place to raise his own child. It killed him to leave his life behind but he knew it was necessary. Now, he has nearly forgotten his own way of life and does not want his child to ever know, or "ask the reason why." |

I've always thought this song sounded like a song about killing. And now that I'm reading the lyrics again, I don't see how it possibly could NOT be about murdering someone in the heat of passion. The lyrics in the chorus describe too perfectly the actions of a stunned victim. In the verse, the murderer describes his motive, his passion. The lines "Who is crying for you here," "Cold fingers mark this dying wreck," and "This moment is mine" make it the most obvious. It's a "killer" song, by both quality and subject matter. Bleak. Favorite Opeth masterpiece. |
