| Tori Amos – Virginia Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Well, I read this, ArtistLike, as well as Kagerou's explanation and I loved it. It describes the song perfectly to me in words I would never be able to find for it :) | |
| Rainer Maria – The Imperatives Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I do like this song. I particularly like the use of "imperatives" from a linguistic point of view :) I think everyone has felt like this at some point -- throwing away the imperatives and making our pockets empty! | |
| Tori Amos – Lady in Blue Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
For me this is a reference, or a reply of sorts, to "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen of which she did an excellent cover version... Maybe the lady's (Jane) P.O.V... http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/61039/ |

| Līve – Waitress Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I think he's saying no matter how much of a bitch she was, you should leave her a tip because she needs it. In the larger scheme, it could mean we should get past our pettiness and help each other out a little more often, by simple acts of kindness, because we all have bad days, we all get sick, etc. Put yourself in someone's shoes sometimes, try to see beyond the bad and look for good stuff (she was a bitch but brought out our food on time). |

| Līve – Iris Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Maybe it's about someone accusing the main character of abusing someone? (mistaken for love)... Until I take their price = Until I take their flags, no? In that case I don't know where the flags come from? |

| Līve – I Alone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This is great stuff - seems the only explanation that makes complete sense to me. Ed would have read that story and remembered it when writing the song. There's always metaphors and hidden meanings to find, but the real writer's inspiration often is much more 'obvious' than we think :-) | |
| Tanya Donelly – Pretty deep Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I can totally imagine the person(s?) she's talking about here. She got into that person or those people a little too much - now she sees through them and it's kind of too late to turn back. | |
| Tanya Donelly – Whiskey Tango Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
One of my favourite Tanya songs ever. Great rhythm in this song and "Of the art of speaking plain I haven't gathered a thing" |
|
| Tanya Donelly – The bright light Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I thought it was about a dream about being abducted by aliens, yes. | |
| Tanya Donelly – Manna Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I can never listen to this the same way now... lol. | |
| Tanya Donelly – Divine Sweet Divide Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| hence the 'sweet' divine. nice one! | |
| Belly (US) – Low Red Moon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
how can you sleep like a baby. hard to pinpoint what it's about EXACTLY but the imagery is so clear - i think it's more visual and feeling than something to put into words. |
|
| Belly (US) – Thief Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"That night you left bootmarks on my wall"... The lyrics of this song leave such a lasting impression. I can't say for sure what it's about - I feel it could be about a lot of things for me probably, in very general terms, about a very deep friendship. also, the part 'Wake up, baby, we are home now' is one of my very favourite lines in a song ever. It's a great song, and their voices work really well together on this track. |

| Belly (US) – Seal My Fate Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I like that, smollett! Hadn't thought if that way but I like it. Another possibility is that it's about religion and letting go of that (thinking the point was...) - the way religion force rules and morals on you in a way. Thinking she had to be punished for being sinful (not in a very literal way though). |
|
| Belly (US) – Angel Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Tanya has several songs about things she'd dreamed (ie. moonbeam monkey was one I;m sure of) | |
| Belly (US) – Sweet Ride Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I have to completely agree with the first comment. This song is just amazing. I feel the lyrics have many interpretations though... that's why I like Tanya's songs so much. Maybe it is about a relationship: Climbing out, We stumble around, All smoky and soaked to the bone. I carry the crown of a girl underground. Referring to her (their) past - now she's down for a sweet ride, settling down, forgetting about whatever (bad things? rough things?) happened in the past. Not the interpretation I'd choose personally, for me it's got a deeper meaning I can't seem to explain but it's just another possibility :) |

| Līve – Lakini's Juice Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Have to agree with gilthanan on this one. It's the idea of religious, "good" practices in a dirty way. Overindulgence/destruction definitely is a theme here and this fits with the drug idea. I think for a lot of these songs, a drug of some sort has played a major role... ;) | |
| Līve – Ghost Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Great explanation! Seems to make the most sense to me, brilliant! | |
| Rainer Maria – Clear and True Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I like that it's a song about someone who's died without a sad, depressing melody. A way of making peace with it, because you feel they're still there. I love the lyrics: "I know you're here and I'm not afraid of ghosts." and "Sing me something clear and true in some otherworldly tune." |
|
| Rainer Maria – Mystery And Misery Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| On a plain level I'd say she's falling for a bad guy ;) Can lead to good things but never ends well. | |
| Rainer Maria – The Awful Truth of Loving Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I like your added perspective, goldfish! I love how she describes this :D "first it feels right then you write a novel worrying about the awful truth of loving" |
|
| Rainer Maria – Terrified Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| To me it means they had to break up because they knew it was the right thing, he leaves to live far away or something but it feels awkward and wrong and scary to be apart -- but it's for the best... | |
| Alanis Morissette – Joining You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| She said in an interview she wrote it for a friend going through a bad time, and that the friend "cried when he heard the song". I can't remember what DVD that was on though. | |
