I find the line 'your cologne is really fragrant' also not very poetic. Moreover I think that the juxtaposition of refined writing with a line of crassness makes 'our bed is like a failure' bold, crude and lasting like a slap in the face. Such a sweet song and then you're caught so off guard. And it's a devistating line, how tragic that two lovers who admire each other so much and apparently want to be together are learning that a romantic relationship is not healthy between them. first verse - she got to know you by putting her hands into your ground. all she found was someone else's song (ideas and beliefs) and you had nothing original to offer. she feels mistaken and disappointed. second verse - she tried religion and got a little bit of good out of it. it brightened her day or maybe life for a bit. third verse - she's been out all day long (maybe on a long journey not just one day) and at the end of it she watches the sunset which is always in the west. when it's finally night she goes back home to her place and she feels defensive and hard like barbed wire, and just totally exhausted and her mind is tired like stoned. she used 'wasted' for all of them to show the many uses and feelings the word can provoke in different contexts. genius |

Not sure about this... We are aware that we perceive only 3 dimensions. We speculate on others (metaphysical / spiritual) but we don't have scientific evidence that we can perceive them (although some claim they can feel spirits and stuff). Because of this people have made up myths and stories that we have all heard: God vs. Satan, Jesus Chris, the Quran, etc. AND ghosts, spirits, purgatory, poltergeists. But Powers doesn't listen and he needs to piece it together himself. Almost all human societies (ancient and modern) have religious and spiritual questions that we explore. It seems like such an important thing, but our world is controlled by the clock. Time is money so now material things are more important than navigating the spiritual dimension... OR Our world is controlled by time which means we only have so long to live. So navigation of what is truth and real is important before we go. Devil vs. God is something he actually discusses here. Second verse is about the Devil and third is about God. I don't think that God or Devil are spirits or forces. There is no good or bad in life. It all depends on feelings, beliefs, perceptions, cultures, and natures. So I think God and Devil are paths of action and Powers is trying to figure out what is right for him and find truth to the mysteries of the universe (physical and beyond). This is a huge part of many human societies. This might be super far out. There is noise that we here associated with our dead loved ones and the noise is getting close so we're expecting something to happen. But that expectation is never met. I really don't have any insight into what that event would be - some sort of seance to communicate with the dead, God as a spirit touching our lives, heaven maybe? This is me clumsily trying to piece together initial first thoughts about the song while drinking beer. I think the song is Powers' search for truth about things beyond our 3 measly dimensions and piece together his own ideas about life and death. But it's hard to interpret. THIS SONG RULES. Not as good as Raspberry Cane though. |

When I first heard this song months ago I was amazed. I had a conversation with my girlfriend about how there are 2 people in my world - humans and robots. It's a theory that rings true in my life. The robots are programmed to respond a certain way. They may act like humans and they may act like they feel emotions and they make trick you - but you have to be really careful about who is human and who is not. The humans feel emotion, love, hope, sadness, depression, disappointment, hatred, shame and a million other things. You can put two robots together in a room. They'll talk about current events and things in their lives at that point. You put them together a few times a week for a year and they still only talk about what happens in their lives today - they don't talk about their emotions, they don't talk about their past, they don't talk about who they are because they are no one. They're hollow shells. Sometimes they have moments where human qualities shine through, but it's because they're programmed so well these days. The soap operas teach them a lot on how to behave in certain situations. Humans will make an almost instant connection and connect the things of today to what happened years ago. They apply their knowledge learned from past experiences. They feel nostalgia and have memories that they yearn for and know the importance of their past. Their past made them who they are today. But they also understand that they can shape who they are tomorrow. The robots are robots - some learn more than others, but they don't have intricate thoughts. Humans develop theories about people, the world, and everything else in the universe. I am a human and I'm here to say that you aren't alone. You've never fit in because you've always been surrounded by emotionless robots. You've never felt "perfectly happy" because you understand that there will always be pain and sadness and that it's just as important to express those emotions as happiness and joy. You're not alone. You need to learn how to find other humans and maintain those connections. There are many tactics for doing this, however I don't believe anyone has compiled an actual list. Learn, grow, laugh, love. Don't change for anyone but yourself. Be you and will live an incredible life. |

I applied the song to me. It's about a couple. The guy has been seeing another girl behind his girlfriend's back. The guy wants to have sex with the new girl, he loves her, kisses her, bought condoms for her, but he just CAN'T have sex with her. He's tried, but he just can't go through with it - he loves his girlfriend too much. But he keeps seeing the girl all the time behind his girlfriend's back. The girlfriend finds condoms in the guy's drawer, but she knows that when they have sex they don't use condoms. "It has to be for another girl! He's cheating on me!" She's crushed. And angry. The guy was well aware of all of the rumors going around and he knew that she had heard them. They had talked about it before and he had never completely denied the rumors or her suspicions. They kept him grounded - he knew he had to be really careful and construct the situation well so that he wouldn't be found out. unfortunately, he was found out anyway. She's upset because she's finally found out that he's been seeing another girl and she wants to hurt him emotionally and physically. She won't rest until he's dead, until his loving mouth is shut - not because he knows something that could expose her. It's because he loves her so much and still tells her "I love you. You're my everything. I never meant to hurt you." She can't stand to hear it because he destroyed her by seeing this other girl, but she knows he does actually love her. She's being ripped apart by conflicting emotions. I love him so much and he loves me, but he's in love with another girl too! He's in love with the new girl, but he's never had sex with her - he's always been true to her in his own strange way. He's kissed the other girl and done other things, but never sex - he's always been true to her in his own sick way. He could mentioned that he had a girlfriend to the new girl, he could've dragged his girlfriend into bed for a 3-sum but he didn't. But there was no sex and he still loves her, so he'll always be true to her in his own sick, fucked up way. |
