Mumford & Sons – Below My Feet Lyrics 12 years ago
If you guys pay close attention, he said that he and the person he's talking to are both dead. They were both nonbelievers. Then they were both led by the light. This woman that he loved became a believer (or a more devout Christian) faster. "Just give me time"

You can tell its a girl because he says "Well you know your desires and mine
So wrap my flesh in ivy and in twine" referring to adam and eve as if she was his eve.

"For I must be well" can mean that he either wasn't on the same page as her yet or he was depending on if you take it as sarcasm or not.

The first part of the chorus is asking her to support him as he labors (another reference to adam and eve) and the rest of the chorus is just singing to her

Katatonia – The Racing Heart Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about a person and his/her spouse. He's stuck because they're trying to live life in the moment and strive for materialism. He can't handle it, and he's afraid that if he talks to her about it, he'll lose her.

Ben Howard – Oats in the Water Lyrics 13 years ago
This is obviously a goodbye song. He was not on good terms with whoever he was saying goodbye to. As to who he was speaking to, I have no clue. I don't think this is a breakup song. His imagery gives lots of detail as to the intensity of the relationship. Oats in the water resembles things left with no conclusion. The birds on the ground means that those conclusions were eaten up and lost by time.
I freakin love this song. I have a huge mancrush on Ben Howard!

Katatonia – My Twin Lyrics 13 years ago
I doubt it's about a relationship. I think it concerns a guy who became such close friends with someone, that they were like twins. They had a history of trials and tribulations. When they took their separate roads, one took the high road of possibly religion and success as the writer took the low road. When the writer saw him again, he felt a little bit of betrayal, loss, and hopelessness. He tried the remember the person he used to love who was closer than a brother, and couldn't feel anything but pain. The final bridge of the song is the writer lashing out with harsh words. Pretty much saying that even though you took the high road, you've still lost (which I'm sure the writer is aware of how wrong he is considering he's about to give up on life).

Linkin Park – Shadow Of The Day Lyrics 13 years ago
I think that this song can be interpreted differently for different people. But to make the thought as generic as possible, we all have seasons of our lives. Cards and flowers in a dark context are used for only two things, moving and death. Life for sure isn't easy or simple. So whether it means moving on in life or moving on through death, it's important for us to know that this is life, and if it hasn't happened to you already, it will.

Rise Against – Hero of War Lyrics 14 years ago
Even if we're fighting against a just cause, the human nature is far from just. When we engage in war, saying we're accruing honor and peace, we're actually contributing to the injustice in this world. Our soldiers are fighting for a better world.... for us. And in return, ending what good there was in another world. Don't be so eager to appraise someone for risking their life for their country unless we know what it is the country is doing. America is no longer the free and honorable country it once was, in fact, it never was. This country was founded on the basis of embracing individual freedom, but we haven't even achieved that yet. Think about all the wars and countries we've conquered or massacred in the name of America. Mexico, Pacific Islands, Vietnam, Caribbean Islands, Native Americans must I go on? Don't let the media tell you what's right and wrong. Read history to make an educated guess before going to war.

Project 86 – Salem's Suburbs Lyrics 14 years ago
If you know anything about the Salem witch trials, you'll realize that the title gives it away. It's about being judged for not conforming to a certain idea or belief.

Linkin Park – New Divide Lyrics 16 years ago
he's apparently singing about himself being in the middle of a world of conflict, could be with someone, some belief, we don't know. (I remembered black skies / the lightning all around me)

there's been specific events that he remembers, and they all seem to mesh into one as time continued on (I remembered each flash / as time began to blur)

he had finally been awoken from the trance he was in. (Like a startling sign / that fate had finally found me)

there's some figure on the other side of this conflict, opposing him, accusing him for whatever reason. (And your voice was all I heard That I get what I deserve)

according to the conflict, anything that he could have/did hold dear were abandoned and destroyed (There was nothing in sight / but memories left abandoned)

The damage had been dealt. no one to blame his actions on. ashes symbolizing a volcano erupting, the climax of the situation had been reached. and now he's experiencing the fall-out. (There was nowhere to hide / the ashes fell like snow)

the official divide had been made. no more conflict. just a barrier between beliefs of him and his aggressor/opponent/conflictor (And the ground caved in / between where we were standing)

now that the divide had been made, he questions why he should change/conform his ways/belief to the other side's and to fill the divide that has separated them. (So give me reason / to prove me wrong / to wash this memory clean Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes Across this new divide)

he pretty much makes his defense for himself for why he stays on his side of the issue here. this stanza is probably the greatest arguement whether it is another one of LP's break-up songs or not (In every loss / in every lie In every truth that you'd deny And each regret / and each goodbye was a mistake to great to hide And your voice was all I heard That I get what I deserve)

once again he asks why he should fill the gap that was made. which is also the main chorus (So give me reason / to prove me wrong / to wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes
Give me reason / to fill this hole / connect the space between
Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies
Across this new divide )

i hope this helped someone.

Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics 16 years ago
If you guys watch the music video, it puts a lot out there to chew on. 2 guys, both young, having fun as friends should. they're biking, they can ride their bike with no handlebars to show of as a playing kind of thing. then they come to a split in the road. one implies peace, the other, corperation. one goes one way, being peace "I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I'm Proud to be an American"
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took"

and the other followed to road to corperation, money, no limits.

he gained everything he wanted. (all the other lyrics pretty much) and in the music video it shows how you can have so much power that you can hurt the ones you love (his friend that he rode his bike with)
