Soundgarden – The Day I Tried to Live Lyrics 14 years ago
I always liked this tune but never gave much attention to the lyrics. This is clearly an anthem of resignation, a rationalization for non-participation in the world. The world (or the human race) is so abject that one can't possibly be an active participant in it without getting blood on his hands, so to speak. From the song's point of view, every time you "try to live," all the noble aspirations go out the window and you find out you're just like everyone else, a liar, a murderer, a thief, a martyr. Better off staying in bed less you debase yourself with all the other animals. Wow. Now, that is misanthropic.

Papercuts – Unavailable Lyrics 16 years ago
This is another great Quever song. I think the meaning is obvious enough, so I won't comment much on it except to say it's profound in its straightforward simplicity.

But, a lyric is wrong. It's not, "And didn't miss the sentences," which would make no sense.

After rewinding a few times, I'm pretty sure it's:

"And didn't Miss, THE SYSTEM SAY
I'm sorry, but who are you
He's stepped out for a while.
He's unavailable to you now

I think, in this verse, the girl, who would probably like to believe she is important in this man's life, is calling him at work. Not only can she not get him on the line at work but his secretary or whomever answers the phones (the "system") does not even know who she is, which only demonstrates his unavailability because apparently (if you read between the lines) this girl is so unimportant to him that he doesn't ever even mention her among his coworkers.
