i also think it's about the band. (This story's missing a wishing well...I'm falling asleep) sounds like they're getting tired of the whole process of song-making, perhaps it's lost it's magic in their eyes, and they talk about 'falling asleep' which is mentioned several times in the album. (Every Prince is a fantasy...The poison will wash away the memory) I feel that the Princes could be characters talked about in other songs, like 'to die for' or 'never mind'. They realise they're just going through the motions, perhaps they feel nothing they've written has any true meaning as everyone will forget it eventually (washing away the memory?) (We kill the lights...But you'd never know) They put on a show every night, and tell their stories through music. perhaps the 'lie' relates to the fact that the stories are just made-up, or maybe its a reference to how they've been 'using' other bands melodies etc, and that when their songs are stripped down, they aren't original. (no offense. i love them. but this kind of thing has been referenced a few times, for instance in 'violet'-(we're twisting every word they say) and maybe in 'red stars'-(you feel it, we fake it). i may be wrong.but they talk about fakery an awful lot.) (The star will shine...And you will forget it all) another line to show that they think their music will just be forgotten. (And after midnight...We're falling apart) when their shows are over, they go back to being just like you and i. (Every story's a waiting game...in the falling rain) i think this is the weakest stanza and was probably just thrown in to complete the song. it might show that they are waiting it out, going through the motions, maybe 'a flower for every name' is a reference to their nicknames? (Now you know...Has found its way to me my dear) this line - now you know - makes me think even more that this song is about how they're fake underneath (sorry, again) and that this was the song they made to tell everyone. (You can make believe that what you say Is what I want to hear) perhaps this is about the fans, be honest, when you meet someone famous you're going to try and say something they want to hear, you want to stand out and be remembered by them. but sadly they probably won't remember you, they must meet so many people all the words just blur together - which is what i think walking with strangers is about. (I'll keep dancing through this beautiful...Keeping all my dreams alive) i know everyone already hates me for suggesting this songs about the band. but they pretty much spell it out for you. 'beautiful delusional career'? yes. the fact alone that they used the word career, if the song was about life, they wouldn't use the word career. nor if it was about a relationship. its a job. a career. its lost its magic, and is now just a career. and 'compromised suicide'? again, i am gonna get the hate for this, but they have a very goth image (dare i say emo...) and lets face it, in one of their promos they have blood splattered over them. they look like a compromised suicide. and 'keeping all my dreams alive', well, they are still making great music, which was clearly their dream when they started out. its still going. perhaps its lost its magic in their eyes and has become a career, but it's still a dream. anyways thats my view on it, and now everyone hates me! but i strongly get the feeling thats what its about. and once you think of it like that, a lot of other songs by them suddenly make a lot of sense too. (violet. walking with strangers. VIDEO KID - we're lying, we're cheating, we're only repeating the motions preceding) and just because i think the song is about their fake-ness doesn't mean i don't like them. the opposite. yes i hear the strong similarities of weekend with iamx and u2, and the undeniable one of movie and plainsong, but its actually really clever, they use the melodies amazingly. i personally like movie much more than plainsong, even though it came first. anyways so yeah. peace |

You took it all and left me nothing But a strange coldness And the shock of death That the day brightened The light of change hurt me When my eyes came upon it But you went without a second thought And your voice sounded so harsh With that I turned and asked you To find the reason why But as you left the room Your lips stayed silent I believed in us, in our dream That we're eternally united I thought this was what you wanted But you denied me I loved you with all my power Also until eternity I think you may have also loved me But not that much You wanted to be free at last Like a leaf in the wind Without concern or constraint Like a little child You took everything you wanted But I'm still here You'll head down your path And you'll find your happiness But where should I go now? Where will my path take me? What lies beneath these ruins for me? How can I ever understand this?
