It seems this song generally concerns loss. It primarily focuses on the loss in forgetting a word, and hoping that the loss is not permanent; as the loss of language would reduce the speaker to a state helplessness similar to an infant. At the end as far as I can tell he is talking about what would happen if he were to lose all of his memories (or perhaps merely his capacity for language); thereby rendering him a stranger to his partner. In which case he would want his partner to simply let him go. |

As I interpret the song, it tells of a game of hide and seek. "you could do the right thing. You could turn around." He called our names and 1, 2, 3." they ask him not to cheat and he starts counting "We slipped into the snow boots...We waited side by side." they hide in the closet and--after making a noise--are found out ect, ect |
