Wheelchair bound kid, trying to make something of his life. Maybe he'll become a writer. A nice touch is how he is dazzled by this local basketball player, who is obviously the opposite of him, physically. All signs (in the lyrics and video) point to a gun control message about how parents keep guns for protection and kids end up shooting themselves. This political / educational angle mixed with dark fiction definitely fits the Queensryche M.O. |

Definitely. But I also think it can be darker than that. I always thought he was crazy and the girl was dead. He's waiting around for her night after night and she's never coming back. "Can't leave if I wanted to". Some of the ghostly imagery in the video, phones covered in dust, her body swaying there like she hung herself... all goes a long way to further this impression. When I first heard this song I was in high school, we had just studied some Keats poem or something, about a guy who killed his wife to keep her near him, or something morbid along those lines. Would definitely fit the Queensryche vibe. |

I like everyone's ideas and creative interpretations, but I am surprised at one theory that is missing. It's so obvious maybe you missed it. Lots of death and horrible things in the world, but none of that matters, really. Not trusting worldly possessions. All the materialistic things fall apart. People too caught up in their distractions (tv, funny pages, etc.) to pay enough attention. He offers freedom, liberation, release. There's no proof. No death when you travel with me. I'm getting a religious message that knocks me over the head when I listen to this song. Theoretically, it could be an anthem for any cause up against intimidating odds, were it not for the clauses that dip into the infinite/supernatural. Specifically, the Christian faith paradox. It sounds like Jesus trying to reassure his apostles to me, but I suppose it is vague enough to work for any person of faith giving reassurance to his flock. |
