Kottonmouth Kings – Where's the Weed at? Lyrics 16 years ago
Intro Interpretation: D-Loc is explaining that the Kottonmouth Kings have potent Cannabis. They have Cannabis grown in Southern Cali that is sure to give you bloodshoot eyes. Everyone in the Kottonmouth Kings has this potent Cannabis.

Chorus Interpretation: The Cannabis is located in Daddy X's backback, but you can't get into it without his permission. Johnny Rictor needs to take a hit from the bong, as soon as possible, so tell him where it's at. They always have Cannabis, and always know where it's located. One of them has to know where the Cannabis is located.

Verse 1 Interpretation: Cannabis was recently harvested, dried, and cured, and now Daddy X is smoking it. In addition, he also has a large amount of Cannabis growing on a Mountain side, as well as on hillsides across the United States. He has a bag of Cannabis in his sock, and an ounce of Cannabis in his coat. He has a large hollowed out Cigar that he stuffed with Cannabis in his guitar case. He has the latest hit-strain of Cannabis in a glass jar. He has an indoor grow operation that is so sophisticated it might as well be made for the President. He has extremely potent Hash or Oil that will put your head in space. He also has Cannabis stored in his garage, under his bathrom sink, in his icebox, and in his living room, by his television. He's got a Cannabis bud on his desk, and a Cannabis bud in one of his dresser drawers. When he is starting to run low, no worries, because he has a hidden stash in his floor. Not only there, but under his stair case. When he's flying on a plain, he stores it in his underwear, next to his testicles. He then asks if any sexually promiscuous women would like to lick his testicles, to taste the weed.

Verse 2 Interpretation: If you are wondering where the Cannabis is located, Johnny Rictor will give you a hint. Just follow the smell towards his tent. Or, follow the smoke that is pouring out of either his Lincon, or his Cadillac, because he frequently drives and smokes. He stuffs cigars with Cannabis even when it's windy outside. Don't leave him alone, come smoke with him. Five pounds of Cannabis is more than enough for him, but oh well, he'll get ten pounds, and be in control of the distribution. The wind blows air, and he blows smoke. In his tour bus, he's rolling a joint. People frequently try to come to his tour bus, to smoke with him, and sometimes he's there, but sometimes he's not. His old connections are still around, and still producing great Cannaibs. He explains that he refers to $50 dollars worth of Cannabis as a "fin", and he refers to his house as "the lair". His main rule is that you don't show up without him knowing in advance. You have to call him first, and get the approval. He might have to call you back, because he could be busy doing something else. But when he is free, he will answer the phone by saying "What's Crackin?"

Verse 3: D-Loc has potent Cannabis, so you know he's smoking it. He's got a potent indica variety that will leave you feeling lethargic. He has premium buds, and large amounts pre-bagged for sale. He has the type that is more potent than you expected, and a very Sativa variety that may make you paranoid. Without a doubt, this is very potent Cannabis that is sure to leave you intoxicated. Him and the rest of the Kottonmouth Kings are getting very intoxicated, all for the stoners around the world. He then asks where the Cannabis is located, as he needs to roll a blunt. He unrolls the blunt wrap, fills it with a generous supply of Cannabis, licks the wrap, sticks it together, lights it, smokes it until it's gone, and then repeats the process.

Alice in Chains – Real Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
To boltthrower142, he means the doctors at rehab couldn't help him. they tried to, and told him he'd be a new person, but as soon as getting out of rehab, he went back to using.

To everyone else this song is about Cocaine, not heroin. Yes, good heroin is off-white and can be snorted in lines, but you need to face the fact that this isn't about heroin. Also, the majority of heroin in Seattle in the late 80's/early 90's was black tar. And as others have said "The Real Thing" was a Coca-Cola slogan.

Also a "blast" refers to the high of cocaine.

"The blade" being his new toy, refers to a razorblade used to chop up and line up coke.

"Under the hill, with just a few notches on my belt"

I believe he is referring to being young and still inexperienced, not with drugs, but with life.

"Take it away, don't want no more"

When binging on coke, after a while you don't want anymore, you are speeding balls, paranoid, and realize that you don't need to do anymore, until you start to come down.

"Even if you say just one more
I won't leave you alone"

When doing coke, you usually try to convince yourself that you will only do one more line, but afterwards, a strong desire to do another "one more" comes to you.

Mad Season – Lifeless Dead Lyrics 16 years ago
"Lifeless dead, that unclean bed
Till or when her hunger's fed"

I believe Layne is referring to the fact that Demri and himself would not care enough to clean the bed during times they were going through withdrawal.

"How he'd wished that they would wed
'I promise on our love' she said"

Layne really truly loved Demri, and wanted nothing more than to get married. Demri promised him that they would.

"Promises were never kept
Alone on dirty floor he slept"

Unfortunately Demri and Layne both were struggling with their heavy heroin addiction. They never got married like Demri promised they would. They drifted apart, and Layne is now living alone, sleeping on a dirty floor.

"And although he'd not accept
She was gone and so he wept"

Demri and Layne had drifted apart. Layne didn't want to accept it, and fell into a deep depression.

"Then a demon came to him
'You must know I'm gonna win.' "

I believe the demon he is referring to is his heroin addiction. It has taken over him.

"He said, she said
She led him dead"

I believe Layne is referring to the various arguments and reasons each of them had to part ways, and in a way, Layne feels that the breakup caused him to lose all hope for life, and to continue down a downward spiral with his addictions.

"He said we bled
She said not fed"

I believe this is referring to Layne reminding Demri about all they have been through together, and then referring to the fact that Demri also said she felt those same things, but she never came through on any of their promises and plans.

And to whoever suggested that it's impossible this is about Demri considering she died in '96, this song is not about her death, but about the fact that they had drifted apart and were no longer together at the time. They still remained friends however, and she still remained the love of his life.

Jerry Cantrell – Spiderbite Lyrics 16 years ago
Obviously this song is about Jerry's struggle with Cocaine. While many assume Jerry didn't have a drug problem, and that it was all Layne, they are wrong. Jerry didn't do heroin, but he did struggle with cocaine for a VERY long time.

This is my interpretation of the lyrics.

Verse 1: I believe Jerry is either talking about a new dealer, or a new friend who's also a Cocaine user. Either way, even though he hasn't been to their house before, he's been to enough places like it to have a good idea of what awaits him inside. All he cares about during the visit is the Cocaine. He does some, but still wants to disappear into the couch, and enjoy the high. He's at the point where he doesn't become active on cocaine, but rather just sits down, to feel the effects.

Chorus: He addresses cocaine as a poison that will slowly destroy his body and mind. It gives him a temporary false sense of security and comfort, but then the hell of addiction and withdrawal sets in. He realizes at this point that Cocaine is actually his enemy, not his friend, and that in reality it's bringing him nothing but pain. His mind is racing, and he is coked out, (the butterfly), but his body (the caterpillar) is just sitting down, accomplishing nothing.

Verse 2. For a long time now, his days have consisted of getting coked out. It's become so routine, that he doesn't even know what day it is anymore. From being awake for so long, he has become delusional.

He then reveals he was 19, adventurous, and in Houston, the first time he tried Cocaine. He happened to do it out in a car. Cocaine is a powerful anesthetic, in addition to stimulant, and for those who don't know, it completely numbs your nasal passage, and it's quite frequent for users to rub cocaine on their gums, and around their mouth. This numbs your gums, tongue, and throat. Now that Jerry has entered the world of hard-drugs, he finds himself associating with people that he would normally look down upon.

Breakdown: I interpret "Spider Monkey's on the Railroad Track" to refer to coke all lined up. For those who don't know, no matter how much Coke might not be your drug of choice, or whatever, and you do it just for the hell of it, after the first line, you will want to continue doing it. You would love to be in a Coca field with access to all the cocaine you can get. He picks at his scabs that he most likely acquired from picking at his skin, during Coke withdrawals.

His father doesn't hear too much from Jerry, and wonders what he's up to. However, Jerry is still the same person he was his whole life, and still can't forget the pain his father caused him as a child, by not being there in his life, and he realizes he is still holding on to that grudge and is trying to get revenge by not being a big part of his father's life.

Verse 3: He then refers to the fact that his addiction is quite arrogant, and since he is referring to Cocaine as a Spider, the Silk Tomb refers to his tomb that was caused by cocaine. He then acknowledges the fact that Cocaine is draining and killing him.

Jerry always used to play this on guitar during the recording of Dirt. It started to get on everyone's nerves, so they told him if he stopped playing it, they'd put it on the album.

Alice in Chains – Hate To Feel Lyrics 16 years ago
What the hell, gotta rest
Aching pain in my chest
Lucky me, now I'm set
Little bug for a pet
New Orleans, gotta get
Pin cushion medicine
Used to be curious
Now the shit's sustenance

Here is my interpretation of the above.

The user has been using quite heavily, and now tries to take a break. However the withdrawal gets the better of them, and they decide to go get some. Then, now that they have it, that's all that matters at the moment, and they are temporarily happy.

Layne has stated that he was in New Orleans and relapsed. He used to be curious about what heroin was like, and wanted to try it. Now he uses it just to not be sick.

Alice in Chains – God Smack Lyrics 16 years ago
As a former heroin addict, who got clean with the help of the Dirt album, it was as if I could have written the lyrics myself, on how well I could relate to it. Here's my interpretation of this song.

Verse 1. The user now realize his use is the straw that broke his back. He is now deep into addiction. He stops associating with those that are concerned and care about him. He is just high with constricted pupils, nodding off.

Even though he stays to himself and gets high, trying not to be of any concern, those who care aren't stupid, and are fully aware of what he's doing.

Chorus: Either his true self thinking, or what someone who cares is wondering. What the fuck are you doing? Sticking your arm with a needle for fun?

Verse 2. By this point, the user has become so consumed with the heroin, that it's their top priority, over friends and family. And now that person is introducing it to others.

Verse 3. For most users, their whole lives they battle with the temptation to use again. No matter how hard they want to get clean, they still get very hard cravings, that make it very hard to not just decide to use again. The user now realizes he put himself in a very bad situation, and is so deep into addiction, that he's not even getting high using anymore, he just using it to avoid the sickness. He would die, if he shoots up enough to actually get high, because his tolerance is so high at that point.

The last two lines refer to how powerful the sickness is, and the fact that by doing more makes the sickness go away. At this point in a users addiction, heroin is their God. They need it to function normally and not be violently ill. They would do anything for it, because it had such a strong grip on them at this point.

Alice in Chains – Junkhead Lyrics 16 years ago
As a former heroin addict, who got clean with the help of the Dirt album, it was as if I could have written the lyrics myself, on how well I could relate to it. Here's my interpretation.

Verse 1. After being clean for some time, the user relapses. He forgets about all of the negative aspects of the drug use, and just focuses on how it makes him feel, which trust me, it's an amazing feeling, that is very hard to not want to re-experience. He would have stayed clean, but he met someone new, who just so happened to be under the influence, and also had some to get rid of. Being in that situation is very hard for a former user. Needless to say, he was convinced to do it again.

Chorus: The user doesn't do just one drug. He will do whatever he can get. At this point, both Layne and Jerry had large bank accounts due to the success of Facelift, so they always had cash available, and at this point frequently were doing different varieties of drugs.

Verse 2. It's a fact, that the majority of people look down on hard-drug users. It seems sick to them, and they frequently try to educate people on the dangers of drugs. The users however, understand each other, and can relate very well to one and other.

Verse 3. Are the non-users happy? The user feels that way at the moment. He feels content, and feels fully aware, although those are the drugs talking. He doesn't care about his money, or his status as a rockstar, because inside, he feels empty and bare.

Verse 4. Anyone who is not a user, or a former user, can not understand a users mind. No matter how much they study it, they still simply can not understand. However, anyone who tries it, no matter what their previous stance on the subject is, they will then understand the users mind, and at first see it as being not so bad.
