My best friend in the whole world was constantly dissing herself. She would always say things like "You're the pretty one, and I'm just fat and ugly." To which I would quickly deny. Every single one of our friends tried to make her see that she was beautiful, and not at all fat, but it wasn't working. I was spending the night at her house one night. We just had dinner, and she scurried off to the restroom. I couldn't figure out what was taking her so long, so I tapped on the door and called her name. She didn't respond, so I let myself in. I was horrified when I saw her leaning over the toilet, one hand down her throat, one hand punching her gut, spewing her bile everywhere. Needless to say, she had an eating disorder. She didn't want me to tell anyone, but I couldn't let her continue to harm herself, so I prayed to God to help me know the right thing to do. I didn't want to decieve her, but I couldn't let her keep starving herself. The next morning, I was checking my myspace account. I got on my friends profile and this song came into the head phones. I thought of how well it discribed my friend, and quickly memorized it. That Sunday, I took her to church with me. It just so happens that we were having a meal after the service. My uncle is a musical genuis, and he started playing. All of the kids were lining up to sing something. I'm not a great singer, but I'm okay. I patted my friends shoulder, and waltzed up to my uncle. He didn't know the song, so I sang a' capella. The whole time I was staring right into the eyes of my best friend with the eating disorder. She broke down into tears, and I hugged her, telling her that everything would be alright. I helped her get her life back on track, and we are still best friends to this day. |

Every time that I hear this song, I start crying my eyes out. I'm only thirteen right now, but I love this song. I couldn't be more of a daddy's girl. My dad played it for me for the first time when I was five. I was fine... until it hit the "'I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl'" part. To this day, I can't listen to this song without a box of tissues in my hand. As I'm hitting the "'I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time'" stage, I hope that I don't break his heart. The best thing about Taylor's songs are the astonishing number of people who can relate to them. I've never had a boyfriend, or anything close for that matter, but I can correlate with all of the songs of her's that I have heard so far. This song relates to me in two ways. The first is something that everyone's been through-- a "break up" with a best friend. I could see it ending, but I kept clinging to the thin wires of our relationship. And when it did end, it felt unreal. And depression runs in my family, so it was inevitable that this would push me over the edge. But I'm in recovery now. And right after that all of my grandparents died. Every single one. 25 days apart. I'm only thirteen and the only generation that I have left alive in my family tree is my parents. Wow, this song is so great. I'm surprised at the lack of comments. I think it's pretty self-explainatory. She's trying to get away from a someone who's hurt her. It kind of reminds me of White Horse. Either way, it's an excellent song. |

| Goodness, this song is so amazing! I listened to it once then started singing it around the house nonstop. I had to look up the lyrics because it was bothering me that I didn't know the whole song. This song is absolutely amazing. Clearly this song is someone talking to someone else because of "YOU were so scared" and other things like that. I don't know why, but I imagine someone writing this in a letter to someone that they love, but have hurt. They know that they are going to be leaving them (either through death or some other means)-- though not neccessarily immeadiatly because they are "writing" as a result of a dream-- so they are telling them not to remember them for the mean things they did, but for the love they had for the recipient of the letter and the other good things that they have done. Apparently they are just realizing that they have hurt this person, because they are talking about the addressee's pain that they "hide so well."
