One of my guy friends loved this song. unfortunately he passed away in a car accident. his death devastated us all. he was a senior in high school and a great person to be around. i didn't know him until we had p.e. together, we became pretty good friends. i remember him and another guy listening to this song on my ipod, singing along. this song played at his funeral. and shortly after his death i turned my radio on and the part of the song that played was "I miss that town, I miss the faces. Can't care to erase, Can't care to replace it. I miss it now, I can't believe it, So hard to stay, too hard to leave it. I could relive those days I know the one thing that would never change. Every memory of looking out the back door, I have the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor. It's hard to say it, Time to say it, Goodbye, goodbye." So of course I started crying my eyes out thinking about the irony of the song. this truly was spanky's song. and like the writer of the song, i don't think he would've changed anything about his life. R.I.P. Spanky. |

| I have always loved this song, I never really thought about the lyrics too much (which is unlike me) and now I think this song has sorta solved all my problems. Since none of you actually know me I don't mind sharing my personal story. Maybe it will help someone else in the same situation. Ok so 3 years ago I fell in love. He was my best friend, we talked every night, said I love you and everything. The only problem was that my mom didn't like him so we couldn't see each other. So after a year of saying I love you, I guess he got tired of waiting and started going out with this girl. He said he was only going to date her to lose his virginity, and I believed him. Two weeks later he tells me how amazing she is and how she is the only one for him. You can't imagine how much that killed me. Keep in mind he was my first love. So for the next two or so years we was friends on and off, I couldn't really get over him so I tried getting mad at him. It hurts less when you're mad. Then I met the perfect guy. As of now I've been with him almost two years and he treats me like a princess, we never fight. We are perfect together. But the first guy still pops into my mind. We are really good friends now and we have started hanging out more. Well last week my girl-friend and I were going to a local bar for her first time. She was planning on bringing a guy and my boyfriend works nights so I asked the guy friend (first love) if he was going by any chance. He was gonna go with us so I wasn't the third wheel. Then my friend's mom wouldn't let her (even tho she is 18) so we had to cancel. So then me and my guy friend decided we would just hang out. We watched a movie and goofed off until he started kissing me. I never kissed back, he only kissed on neck and cheek, but I didn't pull away either. Except for when he tried kissing on the lips. The next day he told me he loved me. I told him how I felt and that got me stuck between two guys I love. GREAT! So since then I've been debating with myself. My boyfriend is perfect, but then why is the other guy still in my head. So after listening (really listening) to this song I have realized that what I have with my boyfriend is perfect. And he is exactly what I want. I don't want to lose him. Especially for something that would be a risk. And plus when I'm with the other guy i think about my boyfriend. With my boyfriend I don't really think about the other guy. So I hope I've made the right decision, and I hope my story will help someone else. | |

| wow im the first one to comment! i love this song, its not very famous but to me its their best one. basicaly the song is implying that the guy screwed up. i think he cheated, she found out and broke it off. but im not so sure. to me, it seems like he is talkin to himself trying to figure out how he is going to explain his wrong doings to his girl to ask for her forgiveness. he wonders if she will believe him when he says sorry and he will never leave or hurt her again. "If I told you I've been cleanin my soul And If I promise you I'll regain control Will you open your door And let me in take me for who I am And not for who I've been, who I've been." those lines imply that he has been trying to clean up his act - whether its alcohol, cheating, drugs etc. - he is saying that he screwed up in the past and now he needs her to take him for who he has changed into and not for the old him. great song. needs more comments tho | |

| this song is a-mazing. i fell in love with it when i first heard it. i mostly agree with Flintstones. I think the guy has been hurt before so he is scared to open up to this new girl. so he puts his guards up. i have been in relationships when the guy had his guards up. it sucks. you are never exactly sure how they feel and sometimes they do stupid stuff and you dont understand it. so in this song i think he guy fell in love with this girl, but he gave her the wrong impression. so when she tries to leave him, he feels like an idiot. when he says "If you just walked away, What could I really say? Would it matter anyway? Would it change how you feel? I am the mess you chose, The closet you cannot close." that shows that he doesnt have a good enough reason to give this girl. he is obviously putting himself down by saying he is a mess and a closet you can't close. However, I am confused about the "devil in you i suppose cuz the wounds never heal". I don't get it. but my absolute favorite part of the song is "say that forever is more than just a word".its impossible to live forever, but love can last forever. Even when people die, memories of their love remain. Forever is more than just a word when you find the one person who you love so much, and the love between you can never die. | |
