Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics 16 years ago
2+2=5 is a reference that people can be made to believe anything even when the truth is clear. Because of this, some will use this to their advantage to control people. The song is about exploitation of people by those in control through mind control and how people are oblivious to what is going on even when it is very obvious.

Are you such a dreamer
To put the world to rights?
I stay home forever
Where two and two always makes a five

A reference to not questioning the common thought, staying home and staying brainwashed instead of stepping outside of ones comfort zone and questioning what they are being told to believe.

I'll lay down the tracks
Sandbag and hide
January has April's showers
And two and two always makes a five

A reference to the people working for a caused because they were sold a concept that was not true. They do the bidding and work of those in control which is ultimately leading to their demise.

It's the devil's way now
There is no way out
You can scream and you can shout
It is too late now

It's too late, once you realize that you've been lied to and the world becomes a corrupt place it's too late. It's so obvious in hindsight but the people did not notice because they were not..... paying attention

The very last line, go tell the king that the sky is falling... but maybe it's not.. shows that even when disaster is clear people are still blind to the truth because the reality that exists in their mind is difficult to change after believing in something so much. They are the victim of someone planting a clearly false idea/concept in their head and they struggle to re-invent their reality.

Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 16 years ago
The song is not a religious one, it is about corruption of leadership/power and the eventual fall of a leader while he loses favor of his people. It might be referring specifically to a time period...if I had to guess I'd say the crusades.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

He is stating clearly that he used to rule the world, now in the morning he sleeps alone(the people are no longer in favor of him) sweep the streets I used to own (he has become a common peasant)

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

This is from the perspective of when he initially took power. The people loved him at first and he was feared/respected by his rivls. Now the old king is dead, long live the king was the chant of the people which initially was a good thing.

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

He is discovering that his kingdome is a fragile one once he enters power. Maintaining the throne is more difficult than obtaining it.

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

This is from the time where he is ruling and spreading ideology throughout the world. Be my mirror my sword and shield is a reference to spreading his ideology through necessary force.

For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

I beleive this to be a reference to when things changed and he became dishonest ruler. He can't explain why, probably a more philosophicl topic here about how power corrupts and manifests itself regardless of the moral/ethical nature of the person who holds the power.

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

A reference to how the people realized that the king they once loved had become corrupt. I'm not 100% sure about the first couple lines, possibly a reference to an act of aggression.

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

The revolutionaries want to now overtake the kingdom because the leader is no longer in favor of the people. This is why I think it's a more generic song about power and corruption because this has happened so many times through history. He is saying he's a pupped on a lonely string.. basically that he isn't in control and that being king isn't an easy job and like stated before corruption ultimately manifests itself naturally.

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

He can't explain how/why things went wrong but he realizes what he has become.
