The Dodos – The Ocean Lyrics 10 years ago
The lyrics right now say "I want to be where I want you to be" on many sites. Maybe those lyrics are from an official source, but I personally hear "why won't you be where I want you to be?"

Anyway, I read that this album was inspired by the death of Chris Reimer, who was a friend of the band members.

The first time I heard the song, I thought of my best friend who passed away. The lyrics "why won't you be where I want you to be?" (correct or not) reminded me a lot of how I still feel. It's not so much that person is dead and buried and gone forever, but the feeling that he or she is "out there somewhere", where you can't presently reach them, even if you knew where they were. As an atheist I don't even know if I truly believe such a thing, but I know that I want to believe it.

"The Ocean" to me is that vast space. His friend drifted away into that ocean while sleeping. It's a weird mix of grief and maybe denial -- the feeling that they still exist but simply can't be found in the vastness of that realm.

Neko Case – This Tornado Loves You Lyrics 12 years ago
The entity that the tornado seeks to destroy, evades consistently -- perhaps through mere happenstance, but more likely through deliberate choice to never be where the tornado is. The tornado "loves" the object; as if to say that the destruction it offers is actually a form of salvation, from the troubles of a particular situation or maybe life altogether. The natural survival instinct of whatever entity is being chased is in opposition to this perhaps inevitable obliteration; it is incapable or unwilling to accept such calamitous death. But the price of this avoidance is the path of destruction and suffering carved by the tornado in the interim, persistent and ceaseless. To finally be beyond it is to confront it, yet this doesn't resonate; to continue to run seems a better option.

Eisley – Brightly Wound Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm wondering if this song is about being in love with someone, but it's a childish or unrealistic love. She doesn't want to grow up; growing up would mean discarding such feelings, and it's easier and more enchanting to emotionally stay where she is; "this place is so lovely / it kind of makes me very happy". "Make believe is much too fun", i.e. imagining that the relationship could happen is better than owning up to the fact that it probably can't.

Fleet Foxes – Blue Ridge Mountains Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the song is about a fellow who has a brother who he considers to be on the wrong track in life in some kind of way. The people who know him are all worried for him. He says "I heard you missed your connecting flight to the Blue Ridge Mountains" possibly indicating that the path his brother took was sudden and divergent from what others expected. The song addresses his brother "you're welcome with me any time you like"; it would seem the other sibling simply wants his brother back so he could be set straight or helped, or perhaps the sibling simply wants him "back" metaphorically, e.g. to return to how he once was. The chorus about the shivering forest, dog, wooden home their grandfather built, etc., seems to be a collection of images that I'm guessing reference an undeniable and shared past between the two brothers, to remind the one of who he is or at least used to be.
