Yeah, whatever "she" is in this song is not real, it refers to a concept, an idea, not a real person. There are two other "things" in the song other than the singer, the "she" idea and "it". I interpret the "she" idea to mean love, or perhaps the perfect woman/relationship, some thing ethereal at least like that. I think the first line is a very strong reference to Plato's idea of the "shadows in the cave", you can't see the real thing itself, only a poor reflection of it. The final thing then is the "it" which is the singer's experience of love in the real world, and like most people's, "it's all mixed up". |
