When I first heard this song (on one of those summer sampler CDs that record labels used to pass out for free at warped tour IYKYK) someone told me this song was about the northern lights, which makes sense considering the reference to lights in space (and the fact that some of the band members are from alaska.) I’m in alaska now and thinking about this song. It’s so good even after all these years |

This is my new favorite song. I know it’s 10 years old, but I just heard it for the first time this last weekend when my friend played it. It reminds me of everything I’ve been thru for the past 5 years, how hard it was, and then finally feeling like you’re coming out on the other side of it. |

First off let me say Dr Dog are some fantastic lyricists. The way they put words together and the type of words they choose is phenomenal. I think this song is about anxiety (that "old black hole") that's always there and never really goes away. The lines in the song about a pistol under a pillow and dogs in the yard to safeguard oneself exemplifies this. It's also about denial of those feelings and saying you're fine when you're not. Fantastic song I can't stop listening to it |
