In my opinion this song is referring to belief and religion. Jack is talking about the fact that no one will really ever 'know' why they believe yet they all think their 'metaphor is better than yours'

Of course the liner note says 'oh' instead of 'lord' because of people (youself, perhaps?) that would automatically shun the music for having a religious theme. Just try to be open to the possible meaning behind it. That's all I'm saying

First of all, beautiful song. Nearly brought me to tears thinking of life in general. I honestly hadn't considered a religious reference before but it makes perfect sense. Eddie now has some much to lose that he didnt before. Sure, he's always had music but now he has a family. Especially after doing the work he did for Into the Wild, I think he may have a different outlook on life. And he's not ashamed to thank God for it. -And please Romanza, the song analyzation on this site is used to give listeners new insight so please don't be bashing on others' views. Whether you agree or not.

I have to agree with several people here. The song is definatley realizing yourself in a fluid world. Knowing only control your mind and what is concrete thereof. Ive gotta say, I LOVE Eddie's work. What he wrote for "Into the Wild" was phenomenal. It's songs like I Am Mine and Guaranteed that keep my evaluating and re-evaluating who I am as an individual
