The Libertines – The Good Old Days Lyrics 15 years ago
To sum up what I just said in a better way, I think it's about projecting the way we idealise the past onto the future, building what cannot be on the model of what never was

or just to look to an idealised future in a way that says that wasn't it. The past wasn't Ideal, so instead of sticking with the past, we shall move on and find the agesless ideal in the future.

Just my thoughts though, could be talking out of my elbow.

The Libertines – The Good Old Days Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, the Libertines have said that they're patriotic for their own romanticised Britain/England, and that this song is about that the "Good Old days" don't exist, it's all nostalgic romanticism.
Hence

calling for the good old days,
'cos there were no good old days,
these are the good old days.

So to me, this song is saying there were no good old days, but we romanticise the past so romanticise so forget them or use them as experience and romanticise now, live in your own way and live in the now and create the days that will one day be the good old days. Plough on foreward towards the Arcadian dream, however "fallen through" or false that dream might be. You're still dreaming it, so "the Albion sails on course"

I think it's just about having an animalistic passion for someone, a passion that almost stops you acting human, because you want them so much

It's about a kiss, and the slipt moment where your lungs are sharing air with that other person

Rent – Your Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
It's a nice song, but considering it was supposed to be Roger's song that he'd leave behind to make his life seem worth something, it's a bit... dull. Apart from the last couple of seconds.

David Bowie – Starman Lyrics 16 years ago
I love the thought that if there are aliens out there then their message to humainty would be
"Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie"
Its actually beautiful in a wierd way, the thought that something we've searched for forever, a sign that we're not alone, wouldn't be interested in telling us how to live our lives, telling us that we were wrong, they wouldn't want to invade... they'd just want us to dance. Something that simple
I think that dancing in the song is a metaphor for enjoying life, without a care, so I think that maybe this song could be Bowie basically saying that we all just need to enjoy ourselves, because maybe thats all aliens would expect us to do

I know I sound stupid and crazy, but that's just my opinion. I know it's from a concept album, but even songs from concept albums can have a deeper meaning underneath their superficial one.

David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics 16 years ago
I also think the thing about workers striking for fame because Lennon's on sale again, kinda points to the idea that, while the girl's escapism dosn't hide the problems in her life permanently and gives her false hope, the sme is happening for other people when celebrities like Lennon are inspiring them to aim for things that, realistically won't happen for them.

So overall I suppose it could be said that the song is about escapism not being a real escape, just a kind of comforter, that won't help in the long run.

David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics 16 years ago
I think everyone who has said this song is about escapism is right, but I think it could be a little more than that.
I think this girl knows she's an escapist, but questions it, which is why she could "spit in the eyes of fools" when they give her these far away ideas in films and things.
So basically, I get the idea that she loves the escapism... but sometimes it dosn't work, and she sort of wishes it didn't, as she knows that she'll always compare reality to her fantasies, and it'll never match up, so she hates the people thrusting these ideas onto her, becase it hurts her to know that her little dream world can't be real. I think the question about there being life on Mars is basically her wondering if there COULD be something more... like she knows her escapism is just escapism, but she still has this odd hope that there could be more to life, and life could turn out like a film.

Such a beautiful song. Even if I am wrong

Barenaked Ladies – One Week Lyrics 16 years ago
I think its basically a guy saying he knows that its gonna take a while to get over this fight they've had, and he knows its his fault, but he can't stop messing around, he does these really stupid things, he's a really random bloke and he knows that because of this, if he said sorry, she'd think he was just dicking about, because he can never take anything seriously on the surface, but deep down, he does takeit seriously and he knows hes wrong

anyone else think the musical is very realistic considering its about two witches in a magical kingdom?
the characters are real, and the situation could be, though on a smaller scale

Wicked – For Good Lyrics 16 years ago
I've loved this song since the moment I heard it.
& now I'm leaving school, its the only song that sums up how I feel.
I general though, about the whole year group. There's been ups and down, and I've felt like rubbish and I've felt euphoric, but in the end, the whole thing made me who I am, and all in all, it was a good experience, not because of me or what I'd done, but because of the people around me, who've changed my life forever just because we ended up in the same school

Lupe Fiasco – Superstar Lyrics 16 years ago
I think its about how everyone expects so much of you when yu're actually a superstar, like you constantly have to prove yourself, even though you never made any claims that you were anything special, you're not able to accept all the hype about you but you got what you wanted and now the pressures immense, you're loonking back on when you started out and thinking that you miss the days when you never had what you wanted, and it was your neighbourhood that you were knowin in nd no1 expected anythink of you, life was easier because you expected things from life instead of people expecting things from you.

Madonna – Don't Cry For Me Argentina Lyrics 16 years ago
This song isn't actually about Eva Peron.
Its from a musical about Eva Peron, it isn't a stand alone song about her.
Its basically her after rising to fame, telling her worshippers/followers/country that that there's no need for them to feel as though they need her because she's still one of them, however much life might have changed her, and however more glamourous and powerful she's become.
I'm far from being a Madonna fan, but in this song, and the film Evita she proved herself
and I can never deny, after seeing that film, that she can sing and act

She was so passionate about getting the part in the film that she pretty muched begged, as well as going through strict vocal training

I love how Che's sarcasm and Cynicism contrasts with the sweet sound of the people mourning their Heroine.

Spice Girls – Viva Forever Lyrics 16 years ago
Its about loss, and always belonging to the person you lost, and wanting the feeling that they still belong to you and that the memories of the time together will "live forever", even if the person/your love with them won't

Everyone reading deep into this, I think its kept as vague as possible, so that it can strike a chord with everyone. Songs sometimes have to do that, to keep the songs relevant, so people can realte to them. Everyone can relate to loss, because everyone loses people in some way or another, death, seperation, or just life moving on in life

The "dreamy"ness of it helps add to that.

Beautiful song, the Spice Girl's best.

I love the fact she uses the word tool

I don't mean to sound anti-American,
but I never knew people In Americal used the word tool in a derogatory way
i thought it had never caught on over there, just like we don't say trashcan.
