One Less Reason – A Day To Be Alone Lyrics 17 years ago
The first verse is her talking, just clearing that up. She said "I wonder when it'll be my day 'cause I'm not too far from breaking down and all I've got are screams inside but somehow they come out in a smile and I'm wondering if I'll always feel this way (this way)." I suppose these two are a couple (more of a girlfriend/boyfriend rather than a husband/wife) and have problems. They always argue and she just has anger building up inside of her but doesn't want to express anger to him because she loves him. Her anger is stored away and it comes out in a smile whenever she's with him. She wonders if she'll always feel that way. She wonders if she'll always love him.

When it gets to the pre-chorus ("Tell me.."), the guy begins to have his say in this song. He wants to know about the days she laid away on her bed hating him for making her feel in a way where she loves him so much that it hurts to argue. He is too arrogant to not argue and she is too passionate about her views to agree with him. So the arguement continues. He knows she hates him sometimes because he rarely agrees with her. In anger, she wishes she didn't have to deal with all the arguing and problems and wishes she can just die..

The chorus has a good figurative feel. He's saying that maybe she's fallen down and taken emotional damage from the problems, maybe she took a longer time realizing that she should love herself even though she might hate him for a time (my interpretation of "Maybe you, you took the long way home"). However, despite the problems between then, he loves her more than she can love herself. And when she looks in the mirror, she should realize that he'll always want to be with her.

Because they argue so much, he's saying that one day she'll realize that he's right. And maybe she's taking a break from him because she cannot stand the arguements and problems. She gave him so much room that he can't "breathe," he can't focus on anything else in his life. Being with her makes him feel comfortable and right.

In the next verse (beginning with "If I could shrink it down.."), he's trying desperately to tell her that he loves her and that he'll do anything to get her back. They've had a big fight and they were problems that made her hate him. He wants her to tell him what to do so he can fix the problem and get back to the way it used to be. He wants to forgive himself for hurting her and he can forgive her for arguing.

And the rest is repeated interpretations.

This is my interpretation of the song. I can honestly say it's what I feel because I am going through this exact situation at the moment. This song ties so perfectly with my life, every word and feeling.

If you come across this, pray for me to work things out. Thanks.
