While raving to my boyfriend about this song I told him about how it's so haunting and bizarre, and then so bouncy, and sung with an attitude, and then it's got that incredible, beautiful line, "Jacqueline was being such a big girl with her cup of tea looking out of the window" That one gives me chills. |

| Oh and I love that idea of him having cancer. It really makes sense. And if he's getting chemo, he's probably feeling very sick, and piece of bread is all his stomach can handle. | |

| The ending ends on such a sad note, it sounds as though she's remembering all of this. Like she lost the love. But it's just such a beautiful song about true love and the way the man really loves the woman and is so sweet. Maybe I think this because I once cut my boyfriend's hair really really short, and I know he didn't like it, but he told me he loved it, because he didn't want me to feel bad. That's what I get from this song. They were really in love. | |

I've always thought the braille was her stretch marks. And she was sitting at home one day, while her husband or boyfriend was out with their child, and there was a terrible storm, and she knew they'd die. And they did. I thought the playing with matches was her and her boyfriend or even just some guy she barely knew being 'bed buddies' and not being careful and ending up with a child. So after they died, she still sleeps with other men. And thinks about starting another family. That's what I got from this: "Well, why don't I begin again with turpentine and patches with cold, cold Campbell's from the can After all I'm still a jerk playing with matches It's just that he's not around to play along yeah, I'm still an asshole playing with candles" And all the while she traces her stretch marks from Elvis trying to read it. The "braille." It's a sad song. |

When she sings, "My heart eats love, ts ts, love, ts ts, love, ts ts lo oaooao oa oa ove" she sounds like she's dying. Like the man leaving is killing her. She has to tell herself the world is round and he might return in order to keep going. |

My favorite part is "That was when the alien geraniums demanded the facts" ajdfhlkjhdfg beautiful notes. I think it's a delusional girl, or a girl with mental disability. Or a girl with a drug problem who hallucinates all this. It sounds like stories I've heard from people who were high. I really think it's her life in New York and she gets high all the time. She might not have even died or been fat, but imagined it. Or she might have. She might have been crazy. This song is just so amazing and bizzare. |

I think it's about divorce. Or just a breakup. I have a friend who can't listen to this song because it reminds her of her breakup. I love the last verse so much, but I can't sing along because I get so angry that I can't tackle that incredible accent she uses. |

| I think it's about this girl who was dating a boy. And he grew on the mother who he began having an affair with. | |

Did anyone catch the part where the girl in the song tries to drown herself? "Waiting for the salty water to cover up my ears But every time the tide come in to take me home I get scared" I think this song is about a young girl who is so in love with her boyfriend. And they go to a beach a lot. She wants to buy a little house and have a baby with him and they'll be this really cool little family. But the guy pulls one of those "I'm unhappy with life, I need to 'find myself'" things. So he leaves. Then she still goes to that beach where they used to go and tries to drown herself, but she gets too scared. Then the lines "Maybe one day you'll understand That I want nothing from you but to sweetly hold your hand Till that day just please don't be so down Don't make frowns, you silly clown" are about how she hopes he'll realize they are good together and she still loves him. And she just wants him to be happy with life and come back. Then at the end, it's the same verse as the first. But the first time, it was a happy one, when they were together, and the last verse is like, a sad beckoning for him to come back to their beach. |
