| I saw her in concert and she sang this and said she wrote it about all the big record labels coming to her wanting to sign. | |
| Ani DiFranco – Angry Anymore Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| One of her very few songs about her family. She's said that she doesn't really like to write about her family. She said that she signed up to expose herself, they didn't sign up to be exposed, so she leaves it be. But I like this small glimpse into her childhood. I can relate, growing up being angry at my parents, at the world, at whoever, but since I've grown and matrured. I'm not angry anymore. One of my all time fave Ani songs. | |
| Ani DiFranco – Angel Food Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's about being friends with benefits. They come when you call them, you both get your rocks off and then go your separate ways. There's no attachment, it's superficial and not emotionally filling. Like a cake with too much icing. It tastes good when you eat it but you're just eating icing, there's nothing to it. I see the little cake there is as maybe a potential for a real relationship is there. | |
| Ani DiFranco – School Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |

what of the mother whose house is in flames and both of her children are in their beds crying and she loves them both with the whole of her heart but she knows she can only carry one at a time? she's choking on the smoke of unthinkable choices she is haunted by the voices of so many desires she's bent over from the business of begging forgiveness while frantically running around putting out fires My favorite stanza HANDS DOWN! Gets me everytime. The whole song is brilliant but to me this situation just nails home how hard choices in life can be at times. They almost seem like impossible choices. I think the song is about choosing between two loves as well, though I don't think they're "lovers" I think it's just about the agonizing situation of choosing 2 things you love knowing that whatever one you don't choose is going to be gone forever or broken beyond repair. |

Actually the assholes she's writing about IMO are people like you. People who just eat up whatever it is the government, media, etc is feeding them. People like you who let other people think for them. People who blindly follow and support our joke of a goverment. I could go on but I won't. And let's not fool ourselves, we all know that Bush stole that election. You don't have to lie anymore, it's okay we all know. |

VERY different from most of her stuff. I didn't like it so much at first, but it's totally growing on me the more and more I listen to it. The first half makes me think of drug addiction. From the first line about dropping shrooms to the line ... first you go under and then you coming up gives you bends I saw that as getting and being high is fun but then coming down sucks. Then the line ... and when you wake up sick as a dog with dull eyes and really bad hair reminds me of a hang over. The second half of the song, now that you said that, I can totally see Katrina This is the second half that was left out and representing the white race a man with a monkey for a face is flying over in his helicopter whistling dixie and playing dumb in a town that might put a gun to your throat or rip the roof right off your place there's a mold crawling up the walls and falling asleep in your lungs and you and i both know how to drink some we will always have work in this town besides the police are stationed at the bridge and they're preventing passage to higher ground so let's pull up some barstools and get ourselves a ringside seat for one unnerving moment they're gonna show the truth on TV |

I love this song. I love the way she sings it, I love the story. I think it's probably more biographical than metaphoric, but that's just MHO. I think it's about also about living and learning and looking back at who you were and how it makes you who you are. and I LOVE the line "while you distill your whole life down to a 911 call" the use of the word distill makes that line!! |

I'm not really sure what this song means to me yet but I love the music and I love the way she sings it favorite lines ... cuz words are vitamins and life is short and i know when we get up to the front office we're gonna have to fill out a full report the first question will be what were you thinking? and the nexy question will be what did you say? and then they're gonna check to see if the answerss to one and two matched up much along the way I just love her voice and the way she sings this stanza |

| Ani DiFranco – Outta Me, Onto You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Probably one of my all time favorite Ani songs. I think it's about her botteling up her emotions till it's just too much and she explodes, out of herself onto whoever is there :p That's exactly how I am. I act like it's all okay, until it's not anymore and then I blow. I also take the line .. some people wear their heart up on their sleave i wear mine underneath my right pant leg strapped to my boot as she may act unassuming but if you cross her watch out, she's got that weapon (metaphor for possibly attitude or aggressiveness) waiting right under the surface. That's exactly how I am |

| Ani DiFranco – Asking Too Much Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| LOVE this song. She's basically saying I want a man to stimulate not only my body but my mind. I want a man who's good in the sack but can hold an intelligent conversation. | |

I never got an angry vibe from this song. I saw it more of a story of being lost. Just from the first and last stanza's life used to be life-like now it's more like show biz i wake up in the night and i don't know where the bathroom is and i don't know what town i'm in or what sky i am under and i wake up in the darkness and i don't have the will anymore to wonder .................... i wake up in the night in some big hotel bed my hands grope for the light my hands grope for my head the world is my oyster, you know the road is my home and i know that i'm better i'm better, i'm better off alone I also think of it as being lost in the mix of life as just an "ordinary girl" when i need to wipe my face i use the back of my hand and i like to take up space just because i can and i use my dress to wipe up my drink you know, i care less and less what people think To society that's not good etiquette or proper manners and would probably be seen as just some common ordinary girl would do and bla bla bla, I love this song though, it's definately one of my favorites of hers |

| Ani DiFranco – Both Hands Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This was the first Ani Song I really ever heard. My girlfriend got me into Ani and told me to listen to this song as well as 32 flavors. So this song holds a special place in my heart! Favorite stanzas ... and both hands now use both hands oh, no don't close your eyes i am writing graffiti on your body i am drawing the story of how hard we tried i am watching your chest rise and fall like the tides of my life and the rest of it all and your bones have been my bedframe and your flesh has been my pillow i am waiting for sleep to offer up the deep with both hands and in each other's shadows we grew less and less tall and eventually our theories couldn't explain it all and i'm recording our history now on the bedroom wall and when we leave the landlord will come and paint over it all |

| Ani DiFranco – Gratitude Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The line ... and i don't know what you and your sisters do cracks me up. I love that she can be singing about something very serious but still find light in the situation. But I really hate this line ... but please don't please stop So un-ani like from the norm. She's usually very strong saying things like "Fuck you Very much" in songs like State Lines. She just seems like a powerless victim in this one. Still LOVE the song though |

| Ani DiFranco – Smiling Underneath Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I agree with the it being forced or something somehow, something about it just doesn't sit right but I love the song for the message. Just saying that no matter what comes, as long as I'm with you, I'll be happy. | |
| Ani DiFranco – Talk to Me Now Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Very empowering song. Makes me proud to be a strong woman in a world that attempts to chew everyone up (regardless of gender, race, creed etc) and spit them out. | |
| Ani DiFranco – Back Back Back Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is a great song, I think she's basically saying if you're bitter and unhappy you need to stop complaining about it and do something to change it. Cuz if you're bitter when you're young it's just gonna get worse as you get older. | |
| Ani DiFranco – Alla This Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Favorite song on the album hands down!! Favorite line, cuz it's exactly what I've been saying for years... and i can't support the troops, cuz every last one of them's being duped, |
