Good call, ParkerSnow, but it's not only the pressure of fulfilling their duties to kill. It's the weight on their conscience of having to kill, kill, kill for the simple ability to exist... the weight of their duties falls hard on their shoulders as well as on their minds. Brilliant song. Can NOT deny those crushing riffs, especially the groove of the verses the way the guitars and drums lock onto the backbeat on the last line of each verse... sends a chill up my spine every time, and I can never, ever just listen to this song once. |

It's more likely about the scientists cracking the human genome in recent years and trying to genetically engineer a better race of human by eliminating and eradicating disease and inferior human genes. The song is explaining that this is trespassing on nature's way of dealing with human evolution... and trespassing by trying to play "god" when it comes to things that humans really shouldn't be tampering with because of the dangers involved. |

Music is an art form. Opinions on music are NOT facts. Claiming that one band is better than another band is purely based on OPINION. YOUR OPINION. NOT FACT. Is Metallica technically more proficient than Motorhead? That can be turned into a discussion based on fact... which musicians can perform more acurately? Which can play faster? Hard to compare, since Motorhead's style is sloppy rock-n-roll with a punk edge while Metallica is more precise metal in nature. Just remember that musicians who craft SONGS (not show-off fests) do not need to showcase all their talents in their songs - only what they fell necessary to get their ideas across. Was Metallica influenced by Motorhead. Yes... they admit it... THAT is a fact. Lars has repeatedly stated that "if there had been no Motorhead, there would be no Metallica). Does that make Motorhead better? No. Does any other element in this debate make Metallica better? No. Was Metallica more successful than Motorhead? Hmmm... depends on your OPINION of "success." If you refer to money, then yes Metallica wins out on that. I get a feeling that Lemmy doesn't give a rats ass about selling records in the millions. And I'm sure if you ask both bands, they will be mature enough to say that BOTH of their bands have been pretty damned successful... It boils down to keyboard commandoes who wank off over and over about who is better and who sucks, simply because they have nagging inferiority complexes and detrimental competitive streaks and have to lash out from behind the safety of their own monitors.
The absolute WORST thing I see is the number of idiots who bash one band or another and insist they be respected for stating something forcefully... although they shout in ignorance because they don't do their homework. So many dorks who are debating out their asses without any idea of what the facts are. Less typing, more reading... maybe you'll learn something.
So which band "roolz" and which band sucks ass? No matter what you think, it is important for you to remember that your answer to that question is and always be an OPINION... NOT A FACT. |

HEAVY song... Love it. Killer riffs from beginning to end. Lyrically, the "how heavy this axe" statement is a literary device used to show that the speaker MUST do battle whether he likes it or not. He has been handed this task to do by the gods and he has no choice. It comes from the axe being a burden... Like a "heavy burden" we must fulfill because it is our fate. His burden from birth is that of a warrior who must do battle to appease the gods he speaks of. |

unfortunately, i am forced to hear coworkers play their radios at work.
unfortunately, i end up hearing a lot of crappy pop/rock radio shit
unfortunately, i hear bush ALOT.
after hearing so many bush songs played repeatedly, i started wondering what this site had to say about the ridiculous lyrics. to say the least, i'm amused. just as i expected, this guy writes seemingly random bullshit that doesn't amount to anything remotely poetic, poignant, relevant, or intelligent. not that is HAS to be... hell, it's his atrocious song and he can write whatever tripe he wants to moan about on top of that racket. it's just really amusing that this guy pulls out the name of a guitar tuning peg (machine head), write nonsensical bullshit as lyrics (which probsbly only took him ten minutes to brainstorm), and "fans" drop to their knees and call this guy a visionary and genious... and i bet the singer has very little clue what the fuck his own song is about. retarded. |

There are a couple of great theories as to who B. Breeg could be. One possible idea is that it is the return of the Seventh Son, as others have mentioned here.
However, I think there's another pretty interesting theory that is possible: Benjamin Breeg is actually the original person who died and was reincarnated as Eddie. Breeg disappeared around the time of Iron Maiden's first attempts to create a band mascot. Think about it...
Breeg has done something so teerrible in his life that he is doomed to come back to life as a demonic corpse that is continually put through different challenges and misadventures: killing people in alleyways, being sent to hell to battle with the devil himself, experimental brain surgery, Egyptian burial rituals, becoming a time-traveling futuristic killer, etc, etc, etc... look at all the different situations that Eddie has been in from all the cover art he's been on. With each traumatic situation he encounters, he is perhaps trying to exorcise the demons he gave in to while he was alive as Benjamin Breeg... and he will not be set free to rest in peace until he has found that peace within himself. With each situation, he fails, and is reincarnated again into another version of Eddie that must suffer through another traumatic experience. Read the lyrics and imagine you are reading them from Eddie's point of view. It actually makes a lot of sense. The "artwork" that Breeg had on the webpage was clearly a picture of Eddie... maybe during his life he was getting premonitions that upon his death he would be recreated into this demon, and that's why this demonic face (Eddie) kept reappearing in his dreams... because his subconscious mind knew that it was his fate to suffer a demonic life after death. This is NOT to say that this is exactly what the song is about, but it's just as likely a possible theory as anything else. Steve Harris has mentioned in at least one interview that he finally wanted to write a song about Eddie's history and background. Maybe this is finally that song. |
