After some experimentation I have come to the conclusion that you really can make any song about heroin. "Hidden from daylight I'm sealed in my cave, trapped in a dream that is slowly turning to nightmare, where I'm all alone." Sounds about right. |

"But I remember you clearly Do you remember that I used to sing?" Since this line hasn't really been mentioned yet, he's asking if his companion remembers that he opened his mouth and broke the omerta- he remembers his friend but he's hoping (as unlikely as it is) maybe his friend doesn't remember or has come to look past what he did. |

| Nightwish – Planet Hell Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Anyway, what I think the song is actually about is simply the end of the world with no exclusive relation to any religion. It isn't really Nightwish's style to write literally about religious stories- usually their songs are more poetic, using Biblical/Greek/etc. references metaphorically where appropriate. For example, the ferryman line is there to signify how bad the world is and that it would be better to die than to continue living in the state the world is in; in other words, you should save a penny so that Charon will ferry your soul away, saving yourself from continued agony and leaving everyone else alone to suffer. | |
| Nightwish – Planet Hell Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This sounds to me a bit like Revelation. And since a Greek meaning has already been given, here is the possible meaning with relation to Christianity [Revelation]. "Denying the lying A million children fighting For lives in strife For hope beyond the horizon" Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword. Rev 6:4 "A dead world A dark path Not even crossroads to choose from All the blood red carpets before me Behold these fair creations of God" There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14 The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Rev 6:12 "My only wish to leave behind All the days of the earth An everyday hell of my kingdom come" During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them. Rev 9:6 "My first cry neverending All life is to fear for life You fool, you wanderer You challenged the gods and lost" Basically, the people of the world neglected God and challenged his authority and now he is asserting it. "Save yourself a penny for the ferryman Save yourself and let them suffer In hope In love This world ain't ready for The Ark" Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm. Rev 11:19 It's hard to tell whether this might be related to the Biblical predictions in Revelation or Greek mythology (e.g. the meaning posted by michaellaloe), as 'God' is referred to in one line while 'gods' is referenced in another. Also, there is mention of both Greek characters (the ferryman and Gaia) and the Ark (which I've never heard referenced to anything other than the Ark of the Covenant). |

| Sonata Arctica – Juliet Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Oh, and as for the relation to the other songs, I think Don't Say a Word comes after The End of This Chapter and is the part where he is angry and carrying out his plan (killing both of them). Juliet is shortly after while the dying is taking place, he is sort of at peace and thinking logically enough to tell his story about what he hopes for in death, his summary of what lead up to this, and what is currently happening (him dying). | |
| Sonata Arctica – Juliet Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Okay, here's my interpretation: I think this is the continuation of the Caleb saga but told as a story of Romeo and Juliet. This song could even represent Romeo and Juliet by itself form a distorted viewpoint, but what I think is that Caleb himself and unnamed women (I don't believe her name is actually Juliet) as Juliet and tells the story as if they actually were Romeo and Juliet, thus why the stories are so similar. I'm not going to interpret all the lines, but I'll do what I feel is important. I lived only trough you, My scar, my heart, my truth, I do not want to die, But no more can I love you!!! --------------------- He can't love her anymore (I mean loving her caused him or at least helped cause him to go completely insane) but he also can't live without her so he is going to kill himself. I hold your hand, close my eyes all I love finally dies Drank the poison most foul with you... But why do you smile? ...Don't smile Don't you smile You're supposed Wither away with me, so, Juliet Please don't smile I'm paralysed and you are still alive. -------------------- He wanted them to both die together, just like Romeo and Juliet (although in the original story Romeo didn't actually kill Juliet). And I guess his poison worked on him but didn't go quite right with her. Life is but a long, sad game Lifeless souls, avoiding shame Two dead swans is all what we need To pave the winding memory lane. No hellos, no bad goodbyes Wailing, distant, silent cries You can live with my pain, It's your own you cannot take? --------------------- Again, he seems to be describing how death will be better than life was. The last two lines seem to be him calling her selfish- she doesn't care how much pain she caused him but now she's scared because of the pain he's causing her (i.e. kidnapping her and attempting to kill her). You played the game and lost, I wonder how you can, Hold the cards for a dead man --------------------- She was controlling what he perceived as a game between them (idiom holding all the cards) and pulling his strings but she has now lost and they are both going to die (and she will no longer be able to control him and the game when he is no longer alive to play). The light and the clarity Welcome change for the life in the darkness, Sea of my sanity... Lost in the vanity... All I ever wanted; to be lost in you, My burden, the hatred... -------------------- Not too sure about this part (and the part after this). I think maybe things will be more clear in death (the darkness); for the second part, he saw her as being lost in vanity and not noticing how much he wanted to be with her. My own reality... Mirrors and smoke The final truth unfolds ...Your reality... Mirrors my hopes, Where you will need me... --------------------- She was tricking him and clouding his life with mirrors and smoke but now he has forced things to make sense and he is forcing her to need him- her current reality which is what he had always wanted (hoped for), although since it never happened, he is now forcing it. Minute of silence! - I get myself in line One minute of silence - To face my own demise One minute of silence - This is not what I signed for... One minute of silence - You double-crossing, filthy whore... ------------------ He is going to die and she double crossed him because she isn't dying with him like he planned. I sit with someone in the dark I'm so afraid to see it's me again... You had a change of heart, Now we're all getting hurt... ------------------- He things he is with someone in the dark (i.e. in his death) but he's afraid that, like before, he is all alone (the other person could just be his reflection). The change of heart could be referring again to her 'deciding' not to die, which has hurt him, or, possibly, it could refer to how she stopped loving him before and now they both 'have' to die. Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to my life again Walk with me, every curve, every bend This promenade that seems to come to an end -------------------- He is representing his life like a play (like Romeo and Juliet)- Ladies and Gentlemen, the audience, have been walked through his life and now they have reached the end (of his life and the play). You know what you meant to me, Emptied the room in your life that I paid for When I lost my sanity I made a mess I am now here to clean -------------------- This part is confusing. By emptied the room he could be referring to her emptying her life of him; the new life that came after that he paid for with his sanity. He made a mess/mistake by letting her go and live without him and now he is trying to fix that. It is too late to regret anything tonight After what has come to light ...You have played me for a fool, for all this time? The story may rewrite itself after I'm gone One more breath, the day will dawn --------------------- I think he is saying either that is too late for him to regret killing them or that it is too late for her to regret (apologize for) abandoning him. What has come to light, it is possible that he finally realized she doesn't love him and that she's been 'playing him for a fool.' The story rewriting itself I think refers to how, in his eyes, their lives are like Romeo and Juliet being rewritten. The rest is pretty much just restatements of what's already been said. |

| Avantasia – The Seven Angels Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| A little long. I know it's supposed to be like this, but I don't really like how it sounds like a musical. I don't mind long songs, just not into the whole sectioning (for lack of a better word) that Green Day is so very fond of. | |

| Nevermore – This Godless Endeavor Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this song is about a guy who originally believes in evolution and science so strongly and completely shut out the idea of their being a God that that is all he knows. However, science can only answer his questions of existence to a certain extent and he begins to go insane because there are no answers. He feels himself being pulled toward God as the only explanation to fill the void, but since he is still so resistant to believe in God, he "fills the void with lunacy." At the end he is still kind of stuck in the middle, saying that science is just a random interpretation and is really just a search for God, but since they are so resistant to him, they blind themselves and search for a different answer (I'm not sure, though, when he says 'how to define you' if he is talking about God or about the universe). However, believing in God is too blind and he's not ready to make such a blind leap of faith. I really like songs with lyrics that make you think and I like Nevermore's choice of words: "the role of science is not to eliminate god" science is used to explain the world, but it was not designed as an alternative religion or to disprove the existence of God. "I feel empty and deranged, denied one last epiphany and ushered from the stage" he wants to believe in God, but since he is used to logic and reason and doesn't want to make a blind leap of faith, he is hoping that God will appear to him and prove his existence. |

Instead of making a fool out of yourself, maybe you should take a closer look at the song. It's more about a guy who believes in science and evolution and then turns more towards God because science can't answer all of his questions. And I really see no point in insulting Christianity- that's kind of like being racist in a sense. |

| Sonata Arctica – Don't Say a Word Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Wait, so Don't Say a Word is the last song in the trilogy? Well, I guess it's easier to tie in that way. "Kill me, please kill me before..." Lol, before he kills himself, or before he kills her? I think Tmasiuk has it right. He has a bad childhood, so he goes a little crazy. He marries 'girl in song' but she sends him to jail and gets a restraining order and probably moved and changed her name or something along the lines of that (the promise I made, I couldn't keep, make sure that we would never meet). And when it ends, he's basically right where he is now (They said I won't find you, but now I'm beside you. I´m not all that stable You should know by know that you are mine...). And he gets mad because she found another man (You have new love and It looks good on you >I have never wished you dead, yet. |

| Sonata Arctica – Caleb Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
(Followed his father, tucked him in, Caleb knows the trade. He’s the portrait of a man his mother drew to hate forever.) His mom hated his father, but she sort of turned him into what his father was. (A troubled little silent boy whose life they were to destroy... only destroy you, my stupid son... the child is not right, he's my greatest shame) His parents or his dad (his relationship with his mother is kind of confusing) didn't want him because he might have been born with some sort of abnormality (autism, maybe?). The end (from Over the hills) makes it sound a little like he became a killer. |
