Love the song, I always thought he was questioning how he could love someone so quickly and completely even while he sees their flaws.
I have to laugh, i came here looking for the lyrics because to me it always sounded like he was signing

This song brings back memories to me. I was in my 20s, living the heart of NYC, worked in a restaurant there, and this song was on the tape that played endlessly. Most of the time I ignored the tape, but got off early one night and as I was checking out, I listened to the songs lyrics. It was odd, it was like hearing the lyrics it was telling me to remember this moment in my life. Like it was saying "Enjoy this time as it will pass and you will never be here again" sure enough, a few years later I moved away and lost contact with all those who I said I would write letters and keep up with.
Still to this day reminds me of that night in 1993, those were great times. Now years later, my life is great, but has changed greatly and I am 2500 miles away from NY, this song can still take me back. |

This is one of my favorite Duran Duran songs.
Not sure on the meaning although I think logistical24 might be on to something.
To me it brings back a memory that is so clear its like watching a movie of your life, I was a freshman in college, with a new girlfriend in a "battered car" hehe (hers) it was October, and she was breaking it up to date another guy. not a big trauma in my life as we had only been dating for about a week or so.. but this song was playing in my head that night like a soundtrack. I can still see her face, the trees outside, the neighborhood and everything clear as day. |

This song, as others have said, seems to be talking about how temporary life is.

This song always reminded me of a girl I dated in college, we kind of went our own ways, and one night we were talking.. she mentioned the lyrics "It was fun for a while.. There was no way of knowing"
