| mikus-fikus... HUH?? Anyway... Very very catchy song which is a bit disturbing considering what it is about! They sure had a way of turning something terrible into a catchy little tune you can't stop singing huh? So, whiffet i agree with you 100%. I've been there myself. The "I have no fingertips..stove trips" made me think of burning and blistering your fingertips on glass tubes that are still hot from the last go... And no fingernails.. well.. you're mind is not at all hungry but your body wants to eat, plus you're wired for sound so you just eat your fingernails to the nub until they almost bleed!! I agree about the disentegrate part too. It's like you just get to the point when you look back and you haven't slept in six days, your eyes are all bloodshot, and your speech is slurring. But your brain is still RACING. I don't miss that life, and I can tell by the lyrics of this song (which was one of the last that Shannon got the chance to write) that Shannon was tired of the game as well. He just couldn't get out by himself. Makes you want to scream at everyone around him to HELP HIM. Screw the Soup tour, do it later. He could've come out with so much more!!! :( RIP hoon. :( | |

Well, blindmelon.org is generally right, as it's written from interviews of the band, about meanings of songs. It says that Shannon wrote this about his car, a 64 Galaxie that he LOVED. The passenger door wouldn't even open lol :) He wanted that car though, so he got it. He said he would ride around in it to clear his mind and that he could just climb in and all of a sudden it was like the radio only played his favorite old songs. Like a time machine! :) I think there's more to it though. I think he wrote this about his fans too. I really think he didn't believe he could write good music unless he was high. I think he felt like he had to get high to be loyal to his fans. "Is this the place that I want to be Is it you who I want to see Holding on, hold it high, show me everything And you're leaving me, yeah you're leaving me you're leaving me with a hated identity" I think that he knew he was dying, and he was torn between whether to get sober and live or to stay high for his fans (to have "good" music). He just didn't realize that he could've been just as great without the drugs, only he could've lived longer and made even more fantastic music. RIP Hoon, you were a FANTASTIC writer and singer!! :) We miss you!! |

Well, I think this song is more than just "i'll be there for you when you're down." To me, at least, it's more to all the Melon fans who are still around. These lines especially: take my hand once again we will all understand help you find a new plan It's like, even though Shannon Hoon is gone, we're all going to move on from here and figure this out together (how to move on and start again). I also think there are some Hoon references in here. He died of a cocaine overdose, but was a serious heroin addict as well. When you quit either of those (trust me i would know..) you get the shakes and break out in crazy cold sweats. There is a line that references those things. So to me, that part of the song is to Shannon. As if to say, while you're resting we'll take it from here so you can get better. He's at peace now, and doesn't have those pains he felt in life. :) That may be way off but that's how I took it. Especially since its their first song to come out since Shannon died (RIP Shannon!!!) with a new lead singer. |
