"leftovers", as in rebounds, i think. i think he's basically saying he doesn't want a real relationship, just a hook up ? "Don't need no fine cuisine" is what makes me think this. also, this idea is supported when he talks about how he doesn't mind that she already has someone. i hope this helps ? just my take on it. |

| City and Colour – Sensible Heart Lyrics | 17 years ago |

hmm. to me this song is about dallas realizing he's got this "self-destructive", emotional fault. probably meaning he drinks, does drugs, or harms himself in some other way, possibly mentally. the first verse is focused around his initial blindness. he states that he's more worried about others, rather than taking him for himself. this means he's not taking enough time to recognize his flaws. the second verse discusses his impulsive actions, negative actions. he's saying there's no rhyme or reason for them and they hurt him. despite this, he's feels he has enough common sense to guide him, a "sensible heart". the third verse is stating how he's just the average man, and even when he's not in feeling low, sometimes he slips, probably because he's just used to it. the end, "it tears me apart", is his realization that he has these faults and they're only dragging him backwards, diminishing any progress he's made. the fourth and final verse is acceptance. he's willing to make changes and whatnot. the only way he can do so is by following his instints. there's my take on it. pretty general, but then again, i think this can apply to a lot of things. |
