this is clearly about exploitation of the Native Amaerican culture told through the story of Pocahontas (and i mean the real Pocahontas, not some crappy Disney version), there's no question about it. at least the lines "still she'll lay down her Body /covering him all the same" strongly suggest it, and it shouldn't be unclear to anyone familiar with her story. |

"i don't really miss God but i sure miss Santa Claus" is one of my favorite lines ever. it's brilliant. i'm an atheist now, but i used to be a christian, but now that i think of my younger years, i feel like i really do miss believing in santa way more than believing in god. i feel that santa is a good metaphor for the innocence of childhood whereas god is a metaphor for living in denial. |

i love this song, it's my favorite song from hole. makes me really emotional. for me, it's about giving up, hopelessnessand feeling like everyone has betrayed you. sometimes you just feel so alone that you would do anything to be loved by someone, anyone really, but at the same time you have stopped believing in everything beautiful. i've been battling with depression for about five years now, and this song desribes really well what i feel on the not-so-good days... i have kind of a weird relationship with Hole, because although i've never liked Courtney Love as a person, i absolutely love her voice and her musical talents in general. but Hole's songs have also helped me see a whole different, more sensitive and humane side of her. |

i just read the first comments this got and it all really amuses me. i mean, COME ON! what's honestly wrong with people who just come here to bash on other people's taste in music and other interests? it's so pathetic! ever heard the expression "live and let live"?! you can't seriously except everyone to like the same stuff, cause it's never going to happen, period. and i'm glad it won't, because that would make the world a very sad place. no wonder we are all so fucked up when everyone's so narrow-minded... shouldn't we just take care of own business, really? why does it really bother someone so much that a band wants to sing about grim topics instead of puppies and flowers and shit? if that's what makes them tick and what they're interested in, then who are you to tell them they can't be themselves just because YOU don't happen to like the same stuff as they do? and as far as emo goes... i'm not emo and i really don't know that much about the whole concept of it, so i'm not going to pretend i do. there's just one thing i'd like to remind you of, and i think it's a thing people often don't understand: Depression is an actual illness (it does stuff to your brain), just like for example cancer (and please don't have a cow about this and say that i'm comparing depression and cancer because i know they are not the same!). the point is, you just can't say stuff like "oh, just get over it and stop acting like that" to a depressed person! it's pretty much the worst thing you can say to them, actually. because in their mind, "just getting over it" is not an option. they really can't see any light at the end of the tunnel. but if you just act all depressed and gloomy because that's supposed to make you cool, then that IS extremely pathetic. anyway, just because someone likes creepy stuff like vampires and blood or something else out of the box doesn't make them a bad person, just different than you. and who actually says that flowers are better than cemeteries? is there some kind of a law? because if there is, i sure haven't heard of it.... it's just all in your heads. so stop fucking labeling people. tolerate. i like to listen to my chemical romance when i'm in a cheerful mood. i think they're songs are just brilliant. in fact, i think the band has a wonderful sense of humor. it's twisted, yes, but in a kind of sarcastic way. -someone who likes vampires AND kittens- :) |
